The greatest player from the single-season greatest defense ever (yeah, better than the 85 Bears), is planning to hang it up once the Baltimore Ravens complete their playoff run. Ray Lewis is ready to call it day. The Hall of Fame bound linebacker had already intimated earlier in the season that he was planning to ride off into the sunset in the near future, but confirmed it on Wednesday as the Ravens prepare to play the Colts this weekend. “This will be my last ride,” Lewis said. Could his mind change? Sure, but those words sound pretty final. Lewis has always sounded like a man of his word when speaking to the media, and take into account that he is 37-years-old. That’s ancient in football terms. Lewis was the Ravens #1 pick back in 1996, and became the cornerstone of a franchise and its defense. He is a 13-time Pro Bowler, and 7-time All-Pro at the linebacking position. He won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2000, while spearheading the most dominant defensive team in years.
