Rays' Yunel Escobar to return Monday potentially

The Tampa Bay Rays' Yunel Escobar was out of the lineup for the second consecutive game on Saturday as he is trying to heal a mild right-hamstring strain. "He's feeling a lot better today, to the point where it's not sore," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "But I don't want to push it, because I don't think it's necessary. But he's definitely...

Expos fans flooded the stands at Sunday's game between the Blue Jays and Rays to state their case for bringing a team back to Montreal.

Chicago Cubs trade rumors: Garza still a Cub…for now

On Friday night while prospect Junior Lake was making his major league debut, it seemed like Matt Garza was going to be packing his bags for Arlington. The Cubs and Rangers had a deal set in place, and got to the point of swapping the medical records of all the players trading sides. After looking at all the records, the Cubs were concerned about one of the players they were to receive...

Recap: Matt Moore shuts down Red Sox, Rays within half-game of AL East

Matt Moore is no joke.  Moore came in the hottest of all the Rays with a 4-0 record and a 1.35 ERA in his past month and he single handedly brought Tampa to within a half game of top of the AL East with a two hit shutout as the Rays beat the Red Sox with a 3-0 victory. The Melkman Cometh: Toronto's Melky Cabrera returns to active roster

There was a momentary pause, followed by the obligatory spread of trade whispers after Melky Cabrera was pulled midway through a rehab game last night in Triple-A Buffalo. As Cabrera made his way into the Bisons dugout, packed his bags, and left for parts unknown it was not revealed until after the game that he would be returning promptly to the Blue Jays lineup. Out of action...

Jose Reyes Takes One for the Team in the Family Jewels

Toronto Blue Jays short stop Jose Reyes has not been one of my favorite players in baseball ever since I took him with an early pick in my fantasy baseball draft a few years back and he only played a handful of games before getting hurt. However, after watching him make a play I have developed a new found respect for the man. james_in_to/Flickr It's a 1-1 game in the...

Blue Jays' Jose Reyes hit in a bad place, but stays in the game

For those watching the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday afternoon, confusion may have set in while watching Jose Reyes avoid a pick-off attempt at first base.  After the throw is made to first base, Reyes calls for time and writhes on the field in what seems to be agonizing pain for a few moments.  It's hard to tell where he was hurt.  It looks like...

After the All-Star break the Tampa Bay Rays are forced to run the gauntlet of the American League East with a 10-game road trip that began in Toronto, with stops in Boston and New York as well. A clean sweep of the Blue Jays over the weekend was the perfect jumping off point for a [...]

Game 101: Rays at Red Sox - Surging Rays invade Fenway

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer The two best teams in the American League happen to reside in the AL East. They also happen to clash tonight in Fenway Park for the first of a four-game series. Although the Boston Red Sox (60-40) are 9-3 against the Tampa Bay Rays (58-41) this season, those first 12 games came at a time when the Rays were middling around the lower-half of the...

A New Generation Of Baseball Fans In Toronto

Even though the Toronto Blue Jays have been the most disappointing team in baseball this season, attendance and television numbers have been encouraging. Two years ago, the Jays were 25th in the league in average attendance, coming in at 22,445 fans per game. Last season, it increased to 25,921 per game, good for 23rd overall. Florida Gators, 12th round pick of the Minnesota Twins, standout relief pitcher for the Quebec Capitales, and now an All-Star for the Dunedin Blue Jays. It's not your conventional route, but Tony Davis is one of literally hundreds of professional players that continue to work 365 days a year hoping to get that call saying they have been promoted to the Major Leagues. Red Sox, Rays Becoming The Rivalry Of The AL East

The Red Sox and Rays are preparing for a humongous late July 4-game series starting in Fenway Park tonight and the importance of this series shows how much the landscape of the AL East has changed over only the last 9 months.  Last year neither team even made the playoffs (The Yankees and Orioles did) but it would be, at least to me, a shock if neither of these teams made the post...
