Tampa Bay Rays' star outfielders BJ Upton and Desmond Jennings were involved in an outfield collision in today's game against the Miami Marlins.

Austin Kearns hit a fly ball to deep left center, and both outfielders chased after the ball. Right when it appeared that Upton had made the catch, Jennings collided with him and the ball fell free. Kearns went all the away around the bases on the play, for a three run homer.

Both players were down on the ground for a few minutes before getting up on their own power, and being carted off the field. Both players were sitting up as they left the field.

A severe injury to either player would be absolutely crushing to the Rays, who are looking for a dynamic one-two punch at the top of the order from their left and center fielders. Based on the description of what happened, I think the worst case scenario is a mild concussion for either player, as opposed to any broken bones or muscle strains. That's not really a good outcome, but at the end of the day, I'm sure the Rays would rather have one of them off the field for a week as opposed to off the field for multiple weeks or months.
