Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Gareth Bale with the fee thought to be a world record figure of €100m (£86m) which would surpass the £80m fee that Real Madrid paid for Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2009. Bale has signed a six-year deal thought to be worth in excess of £300000 per week and will be unveiled as a Madrid player tomorrow at the Santiago Bernabéu. Bale released a statement on Tottenham's website on Sunday night and spoke of how the move to Madrid was a "dream come true." "I am not sure there is ever a good time to leave a club where I felt settled and was playing the best football of my career to date. I know many players talk of their desire to join the club of their boyhood dreams but I can honestly say this is my dream come true. "I am well aware that I would not be at the level I am today were it not for firstly Southampton and then Spurs standing by me during some of the tougher times and affording me the environment and support they have. "Tottenham will always be in my heart and I'm sure that this season will be a successful one for them. I am now looking forward to the next exciting chapter in my life playing football for Real Madrid." The deal brings to an end the summer's longest running transfer saga with the sale following Tottenham's own transfer activity in which they have spent more than £110m on a number of high-profile arrivals. Speaking after his side lost 1-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium Spurs manager André Villas-Boas said of Bale: "He is going to join Real Madrid so we wish him all the best. He is an absolutely wonderful player.
