Boston Red Sox closer Joel Hanrahan, who pitched to just four batters on Monday, was placed on the 60 day disabled list on Thursday.  His visit with Dr. James Andrews revealed damage to the flexor muscle tendon of his right forearm. As reported by Jason Mastrodonato of MLB.com, "Hanrahan, who was on his way back from Alabama as of Friday afternoon, will discuss his options with the team in the near future, with season-ending surgery a possibility. The alternative, rest and rehabilitation, will also keep him inactive for at least six weeks before he could begin throwing again." If there is damage to Hanrahan's ulnar collateral ligament, he may need Tommy John surgery, which would end Hanrahan's season. Hanrahan entered the 2013 season with 96 career saves. He was 5-2, 36 saves, and a 2.72 earned run average in 2012.   He has four saves in six opportunities in 2013, with an earned run average of 9.82, and four home runs allowed in just 7 1/3 innings.
