Ryan MacLeod Contributing Writer It seems like just yesterday that the Boston Red Sox opened their season against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. But now the team has played 40 games and are going to pass the 1/4 season mark with their game tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays. I have taken the information from the 3 stars of the game that I have written all season and currently the MVP race is between 5 members of the Red Sox. They are, in no particular order; Jon Lester, Daniel Nava, Clay Buchholz, Mike Napoli, and David Ortiz. Let us now look at their year to date stats that they currently have. Jon Lester: Lester is off to a great start on the year so far, he is currently 6-0 in 9 starts and is one of 2 undefeated starting pitchers on the starting rotation. He has pitched 59.2 innings so far, including a complete game one hitter earlier this year. Lester has been very efficiant this year, striking out 50 batters while he has only walked 15 and has a 1.01 WHIP (walks and hits pe...

Jon Lester Benefits From Big Offensive Night As Red Sox Score Much-Needed Win (Video)

The Red Sox really needed that one. After losing nine of 11 games and falling all the way to third place in the American League East, Boston’s offense finally came through Wednesday night, pouring in nine runs in a 9-2 rout of Tampa Bay. Jon Lester was strong again on the mound, allowing two runs on eight hits over seven innings to run his record to 6-0, and he credited the Red...

Bats awaken, Lester cruises Sox past Rays 9-2

Two aces faced off tonight in Jon Lester and David Price. However, it was everything but the anticipated rubber match. Much to the relief of the Red Sox offense, the 2012 Cy Young Award winner struggled mightily tonight. The third inning was the exact jolt this Red Sox offense lusted. Stephen Drew led things off with a walk, followed by a Jacoby Ellsbury single to center. Then,...

Jon Lester Flying High - and Making History

Photo from bostonredsoxblog.com Jon, whatever you're doing this season is working so keep it up. - From a fan. He has been outstanding all year, but particularly in his last 2 starts. He and Clay Bucholz have been anchoring the rotation so far, with their brilliance. Neither of them have lost a decision so far. And that's been huge for us so far. Having a dominant 1-2...

Jon Lester, Stephen Drew Both Play ‘Grand Slam Stopper’ for Red Sox Badly in Need of Win (Video)

Sometimes, a win’s a win. Other times, it can matter a little bit more. Wednesday’s win over the Tampa Bay Rays was more of the latter for the Red Sox, who entered the day badly in need of a win. They turned to Jon Lester to right the ship, and that’s exactly what he did — just like he usually does. The tough left-hander improved to 4-0 following a Red Sox loss this season...

Video: Red Sox Slam Rays, 9-2

Lester still unbeaten; Drew hits slam

Jon Lester stayed unbeaten, Stephen Drew hit his second career grand slam and the Boston Red Sox roughed up AL Cy Young winner David Price and the Tampa Bay Rays 9-2 on Wednesday night. Price (1-4) departed from the marquee pitching matchup because of left triceps tightness during Boston's eight-run third inning, which Drew finished with his towering homer off Jamey Wright....

David Ortiz Batting Cleanup Despite Sore Oblique Muscle As Jon Lester, David Price Square Off in Tampa Bay

A Jon Lester-David Price matchup looks good on paper, but other evidence suggests that Wednesday night’s Red Sox-Rays matchup could favor the hitters. Lester and Price both allowed just one earned run and received no-decisions the last time they met, in a 10-inning game the Red Sox won 2-1 on April 13. Since then, Lester has had his up and downs, and although he one-hit the Blue...

3 Stars of the Game: Game 40

Ryan Macleod Contributing Writer The losing streak is over, and its all because the Red Sox bats finally woke up. Well Jon Lester also pitched well but the real reason the Red Sox was their ability to finally produce at the plate. This was a critical win for the team seeing as they will look to win the series tomorrow, something that did not look likely before tonight's game...

Game 40: Red Sox at Rays - Showdown in the Trop

Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer A couple of lefty aces will square off tonight for the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays, as Jon Lester and David Price toe the rubber in game two of this series at Tropicana Field. The Red Sox (22-17) are skidding into oblivion during the month of May with a 4-9 record. That’s after starting the season with a 20-8 record, the best in the bigs...

Boston Red Sox Recap of Tampa Bay Series

The Boston Red Sox got back to their winning ways by winning 2 of 3 against the Tampa Bay Rays this past week. The Red Sox lost the opener on Tuesday 5-3 where John Lackey ended up taking the loss.  The Boston Red Sox then came back in game two with a strong performance by Jon Lester where he improved to 6-0 and the Red Sox chased David Price from the game as the left-hander...

Four Bases: Red Sox 9, Rays 2

Oh, so that’s what the Red Sox offense looks like. It’s been such a long time that they’ve blown out an opponent that it is almost surprising when they put up a nine spot on a team they could not figure out the night before. Here are the four bases: First Base: Once again, when the Red Sox needed a good start from their ace, Jon Lester answers the call. Lester has only given...

Four Real? Four at bats that changed the game. Red Sox vs Twins 5-17-13

Game 42: Sox win in extras, 3-2. The Red Sox had many opportunities to put this game away, but when Boston put men on base, they just could not get the runs home. Dustin Pedroia grounded into two double plays and the Red Sox left 11 men on base and only went 2-10 with men in scoring position, but they got it done in extra innings off of a sacrifice fly, and as long as you score...
