The Joey Votto Technicality

Joey Votto didn’t pop up on Monday. Of course he didn’t. It’s not because he didn’t play — he did play, and he batted four times. The first time, he grounded out. He’s human. The second time, he singled on a liner. He’s a talented human. The third time, he flew out. He’s still human. The fourth time, he walked. He’s human, but less so than us. I remember, back in...

Reds to take on Cubs at friendly Wrigley Field

Joey Votto and the Cincinnati Reds have fallen on hard times lately, though that certainly hasn't been the case at Wrigley Field. The perennial All-Star looks to continue his tear at the Friendly Confines on Monday night when the Reds try to extend their franchise-best winning streak on the Chicago Cubs' home field. Cincinnati (37-26) will try to get back on track after missing...

(VIDEO) Reds Pitcher Bronson Arroyo Lifts A Lot Of Weight For An 8-Year-Old

If you saw a video of an 8-year-old squatting 200 pounds, dead lifting about 175 pounds, and pulverizing a punching bag for a minute straight, your first thought probably wasn’t, “Wow, this kid is going to grow up and pitch in the MLB.” If that was your first thought, then your crazy, but that’s exactly what this video is. Here’s a short clip of Cincinnati Reds pitcher...

Latos Looks to Continue Strong Pitching in Chicago

The Cincinnati Reds have gotten back on track in their series against the Chicago Cubs, largely due to their performance on the mound. The Reds appear to have a good chance to continue that outstanding pitching and their lengthy winning streak at Wrigley Field with Mat Latos taking the ball in Thursday's finale.Mike Leake provided the latest strong outing Wednesday when he allowed...

MLB 2013: Chicago Cubs’ Starlin Castro is MIA

Brian Kersey- Getty Images Once one of the hottest young prospects in the game, Chicago Cubs’ Starlin Castro has gone ice-cold through two and a half months of baseball. The career .290 hitter is now posting a .243 batting average, which isn’t even above the league average. His current wRC+ is a dismal 68, way off of his average of 100 per year. Things have gotten so bad for...

Minor League Report: June 4th-10th, 2013: Javier Baez Has a 4-Home Run Game

Javier Baez had one of the best performances in Florida State League history on Monday, becoming just the second player to ever hit four home runs in a game in a league history.  The first was Ryan Harvey of the Daytona Cubs in 2006. In this minor league report, a run-down of the Cubs Top 13 prospects from the recent post-draft WSD rankings will be conducted instead of the normal...

Cubs' Fujikawa has successful Tommy John surgery

During the offseason, the Chicago Cubs signed reliever Kyuji Fujikawa, who had saved 220 games in Japan since 2007, to a two-year, $9 million contract in hopes that he would help bolster the struggling bullpen. Now, they will have to wait until well into year two after the reliever went down for the season due to a torn UCL in his right elbow. NBC's Drew Silvia reports...

Phillies Are Not Worthy Of Blame On Nate Schierholtz Decision

I can list many reasons that I am upset with Phillies management in this putrid, lifeless, uninspiring 2013 season. But one thing I do not fault the Phillies for is their decision to non-tender outfielder Nate Schierholtz after the 2012 season. In today's Philadelphia Daily News, Phillies beat writer Ryan...

Nationals Trade Henry Rodriguez to Cubs for Minor Leaguer Ian Dickson

I can’t really say I am sad to see Henry Rodriguez traded from the Nationals. But I can’t say I’m happy either. It’s not everyday that you get a 100mph fire baller to walk through your doors. Henry Rodriguez just had one problem as a closer…he had no clue where that 100mph fastball was going to end up. It was a roller coaster ride every time he stepped onto the mound. What...

Painting the Black: Swinging With Starlin by R.J. Anderson

Starlin Castro doesn`t seem to fit the Cubs` new patient philosophy. But is that too simple an explanation?

TV Ratings: Cubs, White Sox, Struggling in Chicago (Also: K.C. Royals, PGA on CBS)

The Cubs and White Sox combined cannot compete with the Blackhawks — or even the Derrick Rose-less Bulls. In other news, the Royals earned another strong rating in Kansas City, and the PGA Tour St. [...]
