Aldon Smith is starting Sunday for the Niners, for some stupid **** reason. But the Niners might be forcing him to stay away from the field for an extended time, and it won’t be because of a suspension.
From Eric Branch:
Two days after Aldon Smith was arrested at 7:02 a.m. for suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession, the 49ers will push for their All-Pro outside linebacker to enter a rehab facility this week, according to ESPN and FOX Sports.
FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer said, via Twitter, that people close to Smith, who was arrested for DUI in January 2012, are concerned about him and are encouraging him to seek treatment for a substance-abuse problem. No decision, however, has been made.
When the NFL inevitably suspends him, he’s going to have nothing better to do.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith allegedly was so drunk he crashed into a tree, so drunk he was pressing the accelerator long after impact apparently unaware of said tree, so drunk he reportedly blew a .15 at 7 a.m. on a Friday.
And this was not enough to keep him from playing football Sunday because - wait for this - "sitting somebody down and paying them to sit...
You don't remember me, but we met once at a house party in college a few years back. I remember because it looked like you were wearing the living room. Your hand was massive, twice the size of mine, when you stuck it out to shake. More importantly, I remember you seemed like a genuinely decent dude.
I can't help but think of that encounter when I see you on...
The San Francisco 49ers lost twice today. One was the game against the Indianapolis Colts. Two, which is more significant, was the way they dealt with the indefinite suspension of their linebacker Aldon Smith. First and foremost I am hoping that Aldon gets the treatment he needs and is able to get his life back together. He is dealing with substance abuse and needs to focus on getting...
Aldon might as well have started rehab yesterday and avoided the butt whupping that the Colts put on the 49ers. It didn’t take long for either Aldon or the 49ers to get all of his stuff out of the locker room.

There was talk that there may have been some concern over how to proceed with the situation...

They tried to make Aldon Smith go to rehab and he said…quite possibly. It looks like he might just do that. On the Fox NFL pregame show Jay Glazer reported that the San Francisco 49ers Aldon Smith could enter rehab this week after being arrested on suspicion of DUI early Friday morning:
“Those close to Aldon Smith are talking to him about entering a rehab facility as early as...

The reeling San Francisco 49ers defense already had plenty to be concerned with this week before the added distraction of Aldon Smith's arrest.
First and foremost: Quarterback Andrew Luck, running back Trent Richardson and the new-look offense of the Indianapolis Colts.
The 49ers look to rebound from last week's tough loss in Seattle with a banged-up lineup.
