Found June 25, 2013 on Around the Arc:
A recent report that Andrew Bynum likely won’t return to the 76ers’ sideline next season is the best news I have heard out of the Sixers organization all summer. While most fans with any sense were hoping that the Sixers didn’t sink a steep salary on the Bynum ship, the organization has remained mum on the issue, causing me to fear for the worst. “What if, in order to try to justify last summer’s blockbuster bust, the team continued to back Bynum, and wait for him to suddenly feel motivated to play basketball in Philadelphia?” I kept thinking to myself, fearing that a hefty contract for an often-injured big guy could handcuff the organization for several seasons. While the manner with which the organization has interacted with fans and media members since the hiring of Sam Hinkie is almost embarrassing, the willingness to let Bynum walk gives me at least a little faith in the currently constructed brain trust that they;A. Can admit to a mistake, cut their losses and move on. The Sixe...

Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie wants nothing to do with Andrew Bynum

Wisely stonewalling the bat cave, new Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie has not discussed a contract with impending free agent Andrew Bynum. A worthless freeloader who landed in Philly (34-48) as part of a four-team, 12-player deal in August, the 25-year-old Bynum didn’t step onto the hardwood once this season due to a potentially degenerative knee condition. Despite...

Things have been quiet on the Andrew Bynum front for a few weeks now, but free agency set to begin, Bynum has reappeared, and wants everyone to know he’s healthy. Bynum has completed his rehabilitation from season-ending knee surgery and is set to resume basketball workouts next week. His agent, David Lee, told The Associated Press on Monday night there’s “not a concern...

Andrew Bynum is ready to resume basketball workouts next week. Bynum's agent, David Lee, told the Associated Press on Monday that there's "not a concern in the world" that Bynum will be ready for training camp. Report: Andrew Bynum to be Ready for Training Camp

I wouldn’t offer Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum a max contract. For what? Max money for a player who has missed over 40% of their career NBA games? Max money for a player who hasn’t played an actual minute of NBA basketball since early 2012? Max money for a player who has shown the maturity [...]

76ers set for 1st draft under new GM Hinkie

On the day the Philadelphia 76ers introduced their new general manager, owner Josh Harris ended his remarks with an encouraging message for a battered fanbase: ''Stay tuned for more from the Sixers organization.'' Turns out, their next update will be the first since they hired Sam Hinkie to run the team on May 14. Hinkie and the Sixers haven't just gone radio...

Report: Philadelphia 76ers Show Interest in Spurs’ Assistant Coach Brett Brown

The Philadelphia 76ers have had problems finding consistency in the head coaching position, and San Antonio Spurs Brett Brown may be their next coach in line. Brown, an assistant under Greg Popovich for seven years, is receiving a ton of interest from the Sixers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. The Denver Nuggets showed some desire in his services before hiring...

Three NBA Free Agents Who Will Be Overpaid In 2013

We see it just about every year in the NBA, and have come to accept and expect the fact that a few teams will overspend on free agents. General managers are under pressure to add the right pieces to their team no matter the cost, and they are at times forced to overpay to make sure they land the big name or the next big thing. Whether it’s taking a chance on a potential star with...

(Photo Credit: James Coreas/North Texas Daily) With the NBA draft closing in, a player worth mentioning is University of North Texas power forward Tony Mitchell.
