Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions will bring in free agent K David Akers for a visit sometime next week.
Birkett adds that the Lions are still “undecided” as to whether or not they’ll re-sign Jason Hanson.
Negotiations between Detroit and Hanson have reportedly “gone nowhere” and Lions president Tom Lewand wouldn’t guarantee a return.
Hanson, 42, was considering whether or not to return for his 22nd season in the league back in February, but ultimately decided that he would like to return for another year shortly before the start of free agency.
Akers, 38, is coming off a very poor season for the 49ers. He wound up missing 13 of his 42 field-goal attempts last year, but he was dealing with a hip injury, so that probably had something to do with it. It’s also worth noting that he tied the record for the longest field goal in league history during their Week 1 game against the Packers.
