Report: Nicastro charged with assault

Boston University hockey player Max Nicastro was arrested and charged with sexual assault Sunday, the school's BU Today reported. Nicastro, a 21-year-old defenseman from Thousand Oaks, Calif., was suspended from the team pending the outcome of the investigation, BU athletic director Michael Lynch said. University spokesperson Colin Riley said Nicastro was arrested about 6:30 a.m. and is accused of assaulting a female student on campus, Boston's WCCB-TV reported. The alleged incident was being investigated by both the college and the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. "Once we receive any information like this, we investigate all sides of allegations to see if there has been a violation of the code of student conduct, at which point further action may be taken," said Dean of Students Kenneth Elmore. Nicastro was being held on $25,000 bail and will be arraigned in Brighton District Court on Tuesday. A 6-foot-3, 210-pound junior, Nicastro played in 27 games for BU this season. Before arriving at the school in 2009, he played with the Chicago Steel of the US Hockey League for two seasons, and also played for the AAA Los Angeles Jr. Kings.
