Things will only get better for Nikolai Zherdev — if he can make it through the week from hell, that is. The former NHL winger is going through some rough times, to say the least, as Yahoo! Sports’ Puck Daddy recently uncovered. In Russia this week, Zherdev was involved in a “physical altercation at the Barvikha Luxury Village hotel” — also known as a “bar fight” here in the States — before crashing his new black Bentley which is priced at roughly $300,000. As if that weren’t enough, locals then reportedly tagged up said automobile with obscenities because of his ridiculous behavior. Tough week, eh? Well, to top things off, his wife is filing for divorce, so he’s got that going on, too. Zherdev was the Blue Jackets’ No. 4 overall pick in 2003 and made stops in both New York (Rangers) and Philadelphia before heading back overseas to join the KHL. So, what was it you were complaining about earlier? Photo via Twitter/Nikolai Zherdev Filed under: Headlines, NESN Staff, NHL

Matt Karash: Which is more ridiculous? The Flyers/Paul Holmgren situation

I am usually not a pot stirrer, but in the depths of the dog days of the hockey summer and armed with legitimate ammunition, let me ask this: Which is most ridiculous? --That the Flyers committed to spend $28M for player NOT to play for them in the future when they bought out Danny Briere and Ilya Bryzgalov? But don’t worry the Bryzgalov buyout is spread over 14 years which...

Ilya Bryzgalov will be training with Farjestads BK

This isn't exactly late-breaking news, but if you missed it, Expressen's Jonatan Lindquist reported that Ilya Bryzgalov's going to be working out with Farjestads BK (located in Karlstad, Sweden) during their training camp, but at present, it apepars like nothing more than Bryzgalov simply finding a professional team to train with as he prepares for the upcoming season...
