At the stated price, the Philadelphia Eagles ticket and travel package seemed too good to be true to Lou Berman. “But it was [from] legendary Philadelphia sportscaster Don Tollefson,” Berman told The Philadelphia Inquirer. Berman intended to sell the package, which included a pair of tickets, airfare and accommodations, at a silent auction with proceeds going to buy Christmas presents for severely autistic children. Instead, he is now wondering whether his suspicions about the package being “too good to be true” were right. Police are investigating claims that Tollefson promised ticket packages to individuals and charities like Berman’s and did not deliver on his promises, the Inquirer reports. It began with a few calls, Warminster, Pa., police chief James Donnelly told the paper, before the department began fielding complaints every day. A separate newspaper quoted Tollefson saying he had canceled the trips because the airlines and hotels did not “provide the service he expected,” according to the Inquirer. Tollefon has reportedly promised to refund the money, but not everyone who got a package from him has heard from him. Tollefson worked for FOX29 and 6ABC in Philadelphia and was not affiliated with the Eagles in any way, the team stressed in a statement. Tollefson has not done any TV commentating since April, when Tolly’s Awesome Friends stopped broadcasting on a suburban Philadelphia station in New Jersey.
