The Oakland Raiders received a lot of discouraging medical news on Tuesday. Not only did wide receiver Jacoby Ford undergo foot surgery that might end his season, but starting cornerback Ronald Bartell sustained a broken shoulder blade in Monday's loss to San Diego, according to ESPN.com. Bartell's injury will not require surgery, and he could be back in 4-6 weeks. The Raiders did not confirm that Bartell had sustained a fracture, saying only that Bartell was to undergo an MRI exam. Also, head coach Dennis Allen told the media on Tuesday that long-snapper Jon Condo sustained a concussion in Monday's game, putting his availability for Sunday's game against Miami in doubt. Condo's importance was made clear on Monday as Condo's replacement, Travis Goethel, rolled two snaps back to punter Shane Lechler with a third punt being blocked.

As a whole, the Oakland Raiders played a very sloppy game against San Diego. The sloppy play resulted in a 14-22 loss on Monday night. While there was a lot of poor play against the Chargers, some players did their part and really helped the Raiders out. Preventing this game from becoming a complete blowout [...]
I already covered this game, but I recently learned something about NFL history. On September 10, 1978, the Raiders won a game against the Chargers in the most amazing manner-- an offensive fumble recovery for a touchdown.Even back then, NFL rules limited forward passes to once per play and only from behind the line of scrimmage. If the ball hit the ground, it was considered incomplete...

The late Monday night game showcasing the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers was probably missed by fans of either team who reside on the East Coast as the contest ended after one in the morning. That was probably for the best as Oakland lost what looked to be a battle of ineptitude 22-14.Early risers might have been fooled initially by the final score into thinking it was...
Week 1 of the highly-anticipated 2012 NFL regular season wrapped up in the wild west in a division battle between the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers on Sept. 10 on Monday Night Football.
