Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that free agent TE Dallas Clark has re-affirmed his intentions of playing this season.
Schefter adds that a “deal could get done this week“
While still no official word on what team may have an interest, the Baltimore Ravens would make some sense. Injuries to established tight ends Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson have the Ravens tight end unit shallow in terms of depth with undrafted rookie Matt Furstenburg and veteran Visanthe Shiancoe the likeliest replacements.
Clark’s ties and familiarity with OC Jim Caldwell‘s offensive system would make the transition easier. The Steelers could also use some help at tight end now that Matt Spaeth underwent surgery to repair his Lisfranc injury and Heath Miller is out indefinitely.
At 34 years old, Clark’s best days are long gone, however the former Colts player appears to still have a bit left in the tank, enough for one more season of action before hanging his cleats.
If signed, Clark’s role would be that of a pass-catcher being targeted for short to medium passes.
