The University of Cincinnati and the University of Connecticut have fallen victim to this vicious beast called conference realignment. While many of their other Big East Conference brethren have found homes elsewhere, they have not, and are now forced to scramble for viable options as to what to do and where to go. This has led to university officials at the two schools to kick the tires on the idea of starting their own conference. Their plan includes a conference that would definitely boast geographical diversity. Thus, traveling nightmares. From The Sporting News:Sources close to the discussions told Sporting News on Friday that one possibility to give the Bearcats and Huskies a home, which is at the early stages of discussion, would be a cross-continent all-sports league involving disenfranchised members of the Big East as well as the most prominent members of the Mountain West. The proposed entrants would be UConn, Cincinnati, South Florida, Memphis, Temple, Boise State, San Diego State, UNLV, New Mexico and possibly BYU or Central Florida. Such a league would include football programs that are comparable and competitive, as well as extraordinary basketball featuring eight teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season. NBC Sports Network is likely to be approached to gauge its interest in such a property. As the old saying goes, "desperate times call for desperate measures". And the remaining Big East schools without a new conference home beyond 2013 are most definitely desperate. Hopefully this whole ordeal works itself out for everyone involved...and soon.Via Sporting News.
