Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III took to Twitter today and asked the Washington Nationals, and Center Fielder Bryce Harper specifically, if his baseball swing he displayed in a new video  was good enough to get him a slot in the lineup for tonight’s game against the National League East Division leader Atlanta Braves. Could I make the @Nationals lineup tonight @Bharper3407? Check out my swing – http://t.co/vPZHGKW8vg – what do you think? — Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) August 17, 2013 The video showcases RGIII putting the new EvoShield Rib Shirt to the test hitting the protective covering with a baseball bat. Though his swing looked good, it’s doubtful that RGIII will be in a Nats uniform tonight as the Nationals try to at least gain some ground on the Braves, who have a stranglehold on the Division and increased the lead to 15 1/2 games with Justin Upton’s 10th inning home run in last night’s game. Yes I’m sure RGIII could play for the Nationals and yes I’m sure his swing would improve the struggling team, but Robert shouldn’t you be concentrating on Week One of the Regular Season which is less than a month away? Let’s not go running the bases and mess your knee up again shall we?   Be sure to follow us on Twitter for all your DC Sports needs   @DCSportsKings @DCsMikeyP

His impact and inspiration...

PFZ Monday Column: Is Robert Griffin III smart enough to protect himself this season?

With the 2013 NFL regular season only a few weeks away I don’t believe there’s a question that Robert Griffin III will be ready to go for the Redskins Monday night opener against the Eagles.  The biggest concern is if he can actually stay healthy for an entire 16-game regular season. I honestly have my doubts.  While Griffin is a better quarterback than Michael Vick,  their...

Nationals' scratch Bryce Harper but use him late as game goes extras

The Washington Nationals had intended to let Bryce Harper take the night off last night.  He was hit twice on Friday and suffered a bruise on his his left forearm.  The Atlanta Braves have hit Harper three of the four times he's been hit by a pitch this year.  Davey Johnson's plans for a night off for Harper only lasted so long before the team needed to press him into...

RGIII dedicating this season to boy with a prosthetic leg

Bryce Harper on umpire Marvin Hudson: "I just told him how good he was and how good he looked."

And so, Bryce Harper was called out on a check swing to end the game by third base umpire Marvin Hudson, and just like that the Nats drop 2 of 3 to the Braves. Meanwhile, there's nothing like an umpire sticking himself right into the mix when you have a match-up like Harper-Kimbrell with a game on the line in the 9th. Here's Harper on Hudson's call: "I think...

Can Redskins Offense Overcome the Defense?

With Robert Griffin III at the controls, the Washington Redskins offense should be flying high this season.  But will Griffin be able to put up enough points to overcome the Redskins defense, which will be missing key performers? Defensive end Jarvis Jenkins will sit out the first four games with a suspension due to  his substance abuse problems.   Jenkins was plugged in to replace...

Redskins' K. Shanahan tries not to be 'middle man'

After the last of his 21 snaps in 11-on-11 drills Thursday, Robert Griffin III grabbed a drink and stood next to Kyle Shanahan. The two chatted as practice continued, the Type-A 23-year-old quarterback and the Type-A 33-year-old offensive coordinator - who happens to be the son of Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan. ''My goal is to try and not to be the middle...

J. Upton walk-off HR sinks Nationals

The Braves insisted they weren't trying to hit Bryce Harper. They were just going for the knockout punch in the NL East race against the Nationals. Justin Upton hit a home run with one out in the 10th inning to power Atlanta to a 3-2 win over Washington on Friday night as the Braves continued their domination of the season series. The Braves, who swept a three-game series...
