In the first real test of his repaired right knee, Mariano Rivera took to the mound today at George M. Steinbrenner Field and tossed a 25-pitch batting practice session. It was like he never left. Rivera, 43, faced minor league hitters Rob Segedin and Kyle Roller. Allowed to call his own strikes, Rivera breezed through the session looking as normal as ever, despite facing hitters for the first time in 10 months. Manager Joe Girardi praised Rivera’s smoothness and command, noting that Rivera “looked great.” Rivera is not game ready however, and will likely need a couple more batting practice sessions before making his spring debut. However, everything is on track for Mo to be the Yankees opening day closer. Rivera, always his strongest critic, seemed to be pleased with his results, as seen in this tweet from WFAN’s Sweeny Murti. “Didn’t take no vacation…Still there…Hasn’t gone nowhere…that’s good.”–Mariano Rivera on his command. — Sweeny Murti (@YankeesWFAN) February 22, 2013 This can only mean one thing for the rest of the AL: trouble.

New York Yankees Are Only ‘Evil Empire’ in Baseball, Judges Rule After Five-Year Trademark Battle

Even judges believe that the Yankees are truly baseball’s only evil empire, and they have the documents to prove it. According to the Wall Street Journal, a private entrepreneur, Evil Enterprises Inc., has been trying to trademark the phrase “Baseballs Evil Empire,” since 2008, but a panel of trademark judges in Washington, D.C., denied the request earlier this month. Fantasy Baseball Draft Strategy: Why Robinson Cano Is Not a 1st- Rounder

Source: Elsa/Getty Images North America I was doing a mock draft with a buddy last night, and he had the fourth overall pick. This is probably the most interesting pick in the entire draft assuming Trout, Braun, and Miggy go one-two-three in some order. The fourth pick can go any number of ways. There are several excellent outfielders who offer a power/speed combo like Andrew McCuthcen...

Kevin Youkilis, Yankees ‘Laugh Off’ His ‘I’ll Always Be a Red Sox’ Comment (Video)

It’s a good thing his new teammates have a good sense of humor. Kevin Youkilis, who recently told the media that he’ll “always be a Red Sox,” entered camp earlier this month with his new Yankee teammates. While there was some ribbing going on, Youk told the YES Network that he and his fellow Yanks were able to laugh off his comments and any other “non-stories” that came...

A-Rod gave Lady Gaga some pre-hip surgery assurance

Alex Rodriguez and Lady Gaga don't seem to run in the same circles, but they do have a lot in common. Besides both of them claiming they were Born This Way, dealing with Paparazzi and — just like A-Rod's reported drug mule cousin Yuri Sucart — the blond songstress has been banned from the Yankees clubhouse. Now the injured pop star and the rehabbing New York Yankees...
