Normally starter Tyler Chatwood's splendid 11-strikeout performance would be the story of the Rockies' victory Friday night at Coors Field. But there's a new normal for the Rockies these days which is why their nine hits in an 8-3 romp over the Brewers constitutes big news. In losing three out of four to the Marlins this week the Rockies scored a grand total of eight runs a franchise low for a four-game series at home. They entered Friday's game hitting .225 in July the worst average in the majors. Somehow some way they had to start generating some offense if they wanted to stay relevant in the National League West race. The Rockies finally broke the ice in the second inning not with a barrage of big boomers off Milwaukee starter Wily Peralta but with timely hits two walks and a bit of luck. They scored four runs utilizing Charlie Blackmon's bases-loaded groundout an infield RBI single by Nolan Arenado and a two-run double down the left-field line by Chatwood. "It was well placed" Chatwood said. "I'll say that. It worked out well for us and it was a big two-run hit there." The Rockies tacked on four more runs in the fourth sending nine men to the plate. Once again it was a string of timely well-placed hits that worked wonders. Three consecutive run- scoring singles by Troy Tulowitzki Michael Cuddyer and Todd Helton fueled the rally. "Yeah we strung hits together" Cuddyer said. "At the same time just because we scored eight runs (Friday) doesn't mean we are going to go out and score eight runs (Saturday). You take every game as it is and (Friday) was a good one.
