Carlos Gonzalez quietly dressed in the corner of the clubhouse and shook his head. Another uncomfortable swing in his final at-bat Sunday dramatically increased the likelihood he will land on the disabled list before the New York Mets series.
"I don't want to go on the DL. But I can't swing. I am just a slap hitter that's all I can do right now" said Gonzalez after the Rockies' 5-1 loss to the Pirates. "It's right back to where it was (during the Atlanta series)."
Gonzalez tried choking up on the bat and had his sprained right middle finger taped differently. He bunted for a base hit but reaggravated his injury in his last at-bat. This is the fourth time it's flared up since he originally hurt on his follow through on July 7. Manager Walt Weiss indicated last week that if CarGo had another setback with the injury they would likely place him on the DL.
The Rockies are off Monday leaving Gonzalez a slight chance to improve before a decision is made. It's uncertain who would replace...
