While the New York Mets have been rumored to be one of the teams interested in Michael Bourn, the former Atlanta Braves' outfielder may have too high a price tag.  Considering the fact that Bourn is still a free agent, many teams may have already expressed their concerns and passed on Bourn.  The Mets likely will as well. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Mets would be doubly concerned about signing Bourn because of the contract they would have to give him and the draft pick compensation they would have to give the Braves. #Mets hold No. 11 pick - and first that is unprotected. Fell to that spot when #Pirates failed to sign Appel and got put back into top 10. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) January 24, 2013 Either way, one person familiar with #Mets doubts team will meet Scott Boras' price for Bourn. "Zero chance," he said. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) January 24, 2013 Someone will sign Bourn, it just won't be the Mets who are relatively cash-strapped.  The team is rebuilding as well and can't afford to give up the 11th pick in the draft.  Bourn is a very good player, but the Mets can do better in terms of production to expense ratio. Bourn hit .274/.348/.391 last season.  He went to his second All-Star game and continued to prove his value lies in his speed and defense.  Bourn stole 42 bases last year and 61 in 2011.  He has won two Gold Gloves in his career.  However, there has to be some legitimate concern about Borun's age (30) and whether he can continue to play in 150+ games per year.
