According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, New York Mets first baseman Ike Davis “is among multiple candidates being considered to be added to Team USA for the World Baseball Classic.” “At this point I think there are a lot of names being considered, including Ike,” the source said, according to Rubin. Photo by Michael G. Baron A spot on the clubs roster opened up after Mark Teixeira injured his right forearm while swinging in the batting cage before Tuesday’s exhibition game versus the Chicago White Sox, forcing him to miss the World Baseball Classic. I’m not one to care about World Baseball Classic rosters, but I think this would be pretty cool if Ike is selected and accepts.  This is a big year for Davis.  Most Mets fans — including myself — are excited to see what he can do healthy, for a full season.  Earlier in the spring he admitted to being very fatigued in 2012. I had to limit a lot of things last year as far as workload. I didn’t have a beer all of spring training last year. I went home and laid on the couch. And I usually fish for another six hours every day [after Mets workouts]. I didn’t say anything to anybody, besides maybe the trainers. …I didn’t feel like myself. I wasn’t the same guy on the field. Obviously, you could tell. I didn’t do anything. When I play, I have the potential to make an impact. I just wasn’t doing anything to help.” Speaking of Team USA, David Wright drilled an RBI triple and finished the contest 1-for-2 with a walk. Team USA will play one more exhibition game before tournament play begins, Friday, March 8th when they face Mexico at Chase Field.
