Rules of the Game took a brief break mostly due to occupational issues, but the legal landscape has been light.  However, the spectre of the New Orleans Saints "bounty" investigation looms over the League.  Specifically, the four players who have challenged Commissioner Roger Goodell's suspensions are in their second "appellate process," if you will.  Under the collective bargaining agreement, Mr. Goodell has served as the proverbial judge and jury when discipline is appealed.  The four players:  Jonathan Vilma, Scott Fujita, Will Smith, and Anthony Hargrove, have challenged Mr. Goodell's ability to rule on the charges against them from the beginning, both through the League's disciplinary process and in federal court.  Additionally, Mr. Vilma has his own defamation lawsuit against Goodell, also in federal court. The four players "won" their first appeal when a League appeals panel ruled that Commissioner Goodell exceeded his authority by met...

Photo: Saints fan poses with Roger Goodell while wearing "Free Sean Payton" shirt

A New Orleans Saints fan, who posts as "2009ring" on SaintsReport.com, recently managed to pull off this photo of him and NFL commisioner Roger Goodell. What makes this pic so intriguing is the "Free Sean Payton" shirt the clever fan was wearing at the time of the shot. Why is that relevant? Well, the man responsible for putting Payton on the sidelines is none...

But one place we never thought one of those t-shirts would pop up is in a photo with Roger Goodell himself. Well, that all changed when a Saints fan who posts under the name,”2009ring” on SaintsReport.com posted the picture...

With this weekend marking the final round of games during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the NFL has decided to do something it has never done before. Referees will trade their yellow penalty flags for pink ones during the game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets. It’s a great new idea, and the fact that it was the brainchild of an 11-year-old boy makes it even better...

Darnell Dockett’s $100,000 Cash Stack Comes With Special Message For The Ladies

Roger Goodell has to appreciate some of the finer moments his athletes are responsible for on the Internet. Sure, there are the great charitable deeds performed by many. Larry Fitzgerald is known to be a great friend of charity organizations. Then there’s his teammate Darnell Dockett, the guy who once took a shower on uStream to win a $1,000 bet. That was 2010. Dockett said at...

NFL Fever Set to Sweep London

The following article was submitted from Puneet, an English NFL fan and reader of 85% Sports; he wanted to contribute a guest column. As an English NFL fan, Sunday cannot come soon enough. Excitement levels ahead of the Wembley showdown between the St Louis Rams and New England Patriots have been building nicely recently, especially after it was announced this week that two regular...

For Rams fans in the UK, it's a chance to finally see their favorite (sorry, "favourite") team in person. For Bill Belichick and the Patriots, it's just another week, a stepping stone on...
