Over the past decade, it has been admirable the way that the Milwaukee Brewers achieved a balance between turning prospects into stars and adding veterans along the way to become competitive in the National League. Ryan Braun became the pinnacle of that success. He went from the fifth overall pick in the 2005 draft, to the National League MVP in 2011. Not only did he help lead the Brewers to the playoffs in both 2008 and 2011, but he became extremely invested in the Milwaukee community, becoming the spokesperson for different organizations and opening local restaurants along the way. He took a hometown deal in signing an extension with the small-market team that had invested so much in him. He’s helped revitalize a fanbase in Milwaukee that could now cheer for a respectable team with a golden boy in left field. This week’s news out of the Biogenesis clinic in South Florida is threatening to tarnish all of that. Ryan Braun got out of one suspension, but it’s unlikely that he’ll be a...

MLB Looks To Suspend A-Rod, Braun And Others

As I watched the Oakland/Milwaukee game last night, I watched as the Brewer`s right fielder Ryan Braun step up to the plate, look back at the umpire, and had a laugh. I couldn’t help but think to myself, boy this kid has no idea what is going to happen to his life in two weeks. By now you have probably heard the whisperings. The MLB is looking to suspend 20 of its players connected...

How Much Longer Will Ryan Braun Try to Bullsh$t Baseball Fans?

Be careful what you wish for, MLB

As much fun as Major League Baseball was last night, the games, the action and the excitement were overshadowed by ESPN's Outside the Lines scoop on the deal Major League Baseball has reached with the former owner of Biogenesis of America, Tony Bosch, to rat on his former customers. The zeal with which MLB has pursued this case has known no bounds and reminds me of the ax-wielding...

A few short thoughts about Biogenesis and MLB

Anthony Bosch got the Selig angry face in the form of an inescapable lawsuit Full disclosure:  I am not a Brewers fan, but have had Ryan Braun on my keeper fantasy team for five years.  I’ll try to not be biased. News recently broke that MLB has struck a deal with former owner of Biogenesis, some sort of anti-aging, possible drug pen.  Anthony Bosch has agreed to give his full...

Alex Rodriguez adds laywer of Ryan Braun to legal team

Alex Rodriguez could be facing a 100-game suspension. The former All-Star has hired David Cornwell to his legal team according to USA Today. Cornwell helped overturn the suspension of Ryan Braun last year after the Brewers outfielder was suspended for a positive drug test. Rodriguez is gearing up for a legal battle after Anthony Bosch, head of the now-closed Biogenesis of America...

Homestander: Critical Thinking

There is a witch hunt going on in the MLB and it involves our favorite son, Ryan Braun. I don't know why, but there is. The mainstream media is a big part of it because they want to get the scoop, they want to break the story and they want to get the page views. They learned from the Melky Cabrera situation that he just doesn't get the clicks anymore. They've learned...

Brewers open series with suddenly resurgent Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies are on the verge of climbing over .500 for the first time this season after sweeping one last-place team. To crack the break-even mark, they could use a better performance against another cellar dweller. The Phillies, who dropped two of three to Milwaukee this past weekend, will try for an improved showing in a four-game series with the Brewers beginning...

TOC roundtable: the Biogenesis saga

We haven't done one of these roundtables in quite awhile, but I figured all of the hubbub surrounding ESPN's report about the Biogenesis clinic, and MLB's plan to suspend 20+ players tied to the clinic would be a great way to bring it back. I asked the TOC staff to respond to the below question, and got some really insightful comments from everyone. What is your...

Column: Selig finally takes stand in steroid fight

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By TIM DAHLBERG AP Sports Columnist If you believed Ryan Braun's first alibi - and a lot of Milwaukee baseball fans did - then maybe his tale about showing up in the records of a Miami anti-aging clinic because his lawyers needed more expertise on performance-enhancing drugs isn't so implausible after all. Alex Rodriguez's claim that he only used...
