Ryan Fines gave his verbal commitment to Al Golden and the University of Miami on Wednesday. The defensive tackle from Manatee High School (Bradenton, FL) spent the day on campus and gave his commitment at about 4:30 p.m.
The 6’3″ 292 pound junior recorded 44 tackles in two years of varsity football including three sacks and three fumble recoveries. He can bench 365 pounds. He also received offers from Arizona and South Florida.
He will be a solid addition to the shaky Miami defense that allowed 426.4 yards per game in 2013.
Manatee, also named the Hurricanes, had a school record 12 football players sign letters of intent in the 2014 class. Most notably, Fines’ fellow defensive lineman Demarcus Christmas signed to Florida State. Rivals ranked Christmas a 4-star athlete, the sixth player in his position.
This year, Miami lost 4-star defensive tackle Travonte Valentine to LSU. But on National Signing Day, the Hurricanes signed defensive ends Chad Thomas, Mike Smith and Demetrious Jackson along with defensive tackles Michael Wyche, Anthony Moten, and Courtel Jenkins.
