In the race that was promoted by his car owner and boss, Ryan Hunter-Reay pulled away from Tony Kanaan late to claim the Milwaukee IndyFest for his first win of the season.

Hunter-Reay, who had also won before at the Milwaukee Mile by going wire-to-wire in 2004, had to hang on to the point through two restarts within the final 35 laps to earn the victory for Michael Andretti and Andretti Autosport. The team also netted a second spot on the podium thanks to James Hinchcliffe's third place finish. In addition, Andretti's promotional group, Andretti Sports Marketing, announced the return of the IndyFest to the Mile for next season.

As for Kanaan, he notched his third podium finish and sixth Top-5 run in eight IZOD IndyCar Series starts at Milwaukee. Hinchcliffe also moved into second place in the championship behind Will Power, who finished 12th but still holds a 31-point title edge going into next Saturday's race at Iowa Speedway.

Oriol Servia had another rocket run through the field, finishing fourth after making up 16 spots on the day. E.J. Viso rounded out the top 5, putting two KV Racing Technology drivers in the group along with Kanaan.

The biggest loser coming out of Milwaukee may have been Scott Dixon, who had to start 21st due to a grid penalty for an unapproved engine change. Dixon was up to the challenge and rose as high as 4th in the first half of the race, but was given a drive-through penalty for jumping a restart. Dixon was knocked to 17th as a result before finishing 11th.

Confusion emerged after the call was made, because the Lap 103 restart from where the penalty arose didn't appear to show Dixon making any advances. However, a second clip was later shown on ABC television that had Dixon getting by Alex Tagliani on another re-start that was waved off.

"There were a couple of restarts that were pretty crazy," said Dixon to ABC's Vince Welch in post-race. "There was one where Viso was going 20 miles per hour and was the only guy in first gear. When they went, I went and had to pull out of line because everyone was going so slow -- but that [restart] was a wave-off.

"I don't really understand where I've gone wrong here. There was another restart there, but from review, it was one that Hunter-Reay actually jumped, not me. So I'm actually very excited to see what the hell they're talking about."
