The San Francisco Giants have added outfielder Jeff Francoeur to their roster. Francoeur was released by the Kansas City Royals on Friday and was said to be seeking a major league deal. While with the Royals the 29-year-old hit a disappointing .208/.249/.322 this season with 3 home runs and 13 RBI in 59 games. After a down 2012 the Royals were hoping that Francoeur would return to his 2011 form where he hit .285 with 20 home runs and 87 RBI.

Reactions To The Francoeur Signing

What do I think of the Giants signing Jeff Francoeur? I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see it having a major impact.  I was wrong, after all, about Pat Burrell. Francoeur has had a lot of bad years and only one good one over the last half-decade or so.  He’s decent against left-handed pitching only.  He’s got mediocre defense.  I don’t see him catching the Giants magic...

Francoeur to Omaha was never an option to him or the Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Former Royal Jeff Francoeur signed a minor-league contract with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, which may make some fans wonder why the Royals simply didn't option Francoeur to Triple-A Omaha as insurance to the possibility of a major injury to one of their big-league outfielders. Francoeur, though, was a five-plus years player in terms of service time...

Sources: Giants, Francoeur reach deal

The reeling San Francisco Giants added to their depleted outfield Tuesday, reaching agreement with Jeff Francoeur, according to major-league sources. Francouer, 29, was designated for assignment for the Kansas City Royals on June 30 and released Sunday. The Royals will be responsible for nearly all of the remainder of his $6.75 million salary, with the Giants paying him only a pro...

Giants sign Jeff Francoeur to minor-league contract

It’s come to this for the beleaguered Giants. Signing a player that not even the Kansas City Royals wanted. The Giants and outfielder Jeff Francoeur agreed to a minor-league contract. The team hopes he can give the slumping outfield some kind of boost eventually. Easier said than done. He was DFA’ed by the Royals last month after hitting .208 with 3 homers and 13 RBI in 59 games...

SF Giants Rumors: Musical Lockers (Roster Moves), Why Francoeur Picked Giants, Wheeler Faces G-men!

All these moves didn’t help the Giants get a win...

Royals to let fans choose new name for Frenchy Quarter

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- With outfielder Jeff Francoeur no longer a Royal, the subject of what to do with the Frenchy Quarter section of Kauffman Stadium has come up often in the past two weeks. The Royals say they have the solution: Let the fans rename it, then promote it like the Frenchy Quarter had been since 2012. The Royals are giving fans three options: GordoNation (named for...

You Mad, Bro? Salami is the Wyrd

Man, from these fans, you’d never know the Giants had won 2 World Series titles in 3 years… From the SB Nation San Francisco Giants blog McCovey Chronicles “I’ve been praying and praying for Jeff Francoeur to save the Giants I’m anticipating a 30 game winning streak starting tonight!” “Mostly, having to do with Jeff Francoeur’s stupidly spelled name. I officially...

Yasiel Puig’s Poor Plate Discipline, Similarities With Jeff Francoeur Could Put Sudden End to ‘Puigmania’

There’s an old saying among Dominican ballplayers: “You can’t walk your way off the island.” The implication is that you have to hit — and swing — to get noticed by Major League Baseball talent evaluators and have the chance to defect from the Communist country. Of course, we all know that the modes of evaluating baseball players have changed, rather radically, over the...

SF Giants Rumors: Another Tough Loss, Giants Ink Jeff Francoeur

Last night was a game the San Francisco Giants desperately needed. Tim Lincecum was dealing, and struck out 11 Mets in his 7 innings of work. They went on to lose the game in the 16th inning. They had plenty of chances to score, and base-runners all over the place. They just weren’t able to cash in with a clutch hit. They’ve now lost 12 of their last 14 games, and are 6.5 games...

Report: Former Braves Phenom Jeff Francoeur Will Sign with San Francisco Giants

After being released by the Kansas City Royals, the once bright baseball future of former Atlanta Braves phenom Jeff Francoeur was looking bleak indeed.
