This Saturday’s game for the Navy Midshipmen isn’t the final
test of a difficult and trying season… it only feels that way.
Navy won’t be concluding its regular season when it travels
to Silicon Valley to take on the San Jose State Spartans this weekend, but
since the Midshipmen won’t play another game for three weeks after this
contest, they’ll have to devote a unique amount of attention to the task at
Navy will play its regular-season finale against Army on
December 10, meaning that coach Ken Niumatalolo’s team will have two
consecutive off weeks before playing game number 12 in 2011. Therefore, with
Navy sitting at 4-6, the boys from Annapolis – who still have a shot at a bowl
game – need to treat San Jose State with supreme respect. The pageantry of Army
and the possibility of a bowl game can wait. For now, Navy needs to make sure
that when it plays Army, its postseason dream will still be alive.
