Schiano Brings LeGrand to Tampa Bay BuccaneersIf you have been following BeyondUSports for the past year, then you know the Eric LeGrand story has touched us and many of you since the very beginning. Eric LeGrand’s dream has always been to play in the NFL.  Its why he chose to play under coach Greg Schiano at Rutgers, in hopes of that program enabling those dreams into becoming reality one day.  When LeGrand suffered a severe spinal injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down, his dreams were tragically ended…at least until his former coach became the new coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs. image credit: deseretnews.com Coach Schiano did one of the classiest things I’ve heard a football coach do in very long while.  He convinced the Tampa Bay Bucs organization to sign the college free agent defensive tackle.
Said Schiano in a press release by the Bucs: “Leading up to the draft, I couldn’t help but think that this should’ve been Eric’s draft class,” said Schiano in a statement. “This small gesture is the least we could do to recognize his character, spirit, and perseverance. The way Eric lives his life epitomizes what we are looking for in Buccaneer Men.”
“Small gesture,” coach? Right. Not only is this a praiseworthy gesture by the Tampa Bay organization, but is peaks volumes about the type of man Greg Schiano is.  Since the injury, LeGrand has established himself with a successful broadcasting career with Rutgers football. After the signing, LeGrand tweeted, “We ready!!!”
Said LeGrand: “It’s a symbolic gesture. They can’t give me any money with the salary cap and all that kind of stuff,” LeGrand said in his conference call. “It’s symbolic, something coach wanted to do and I appreciate that. It just shows the man that he is.”
Coach Schiano represents everything good about coaching.  He has always been there for Eric Legrand and he always will.  It almost makes you want to root for the Tampa Bay Bucs…almost. BeyondU Sports BeyondU Sports - Best College Sports Blog Site
