NorthWest Sports Beat:
San Francisco 49ers
The Hawks playoff hopes are at stake.
This is it. The upstart Seahawks have erupted and shocked the NFL this season, led by Rookie of The Year candidate and American hero Russell Wilson. Here are the keys to arguably the Seahawks biggest game of the season.
If Wilson Brings his A+ Game
Russell Wilson has been the catalyst for the Seahawks surprising success this season. Wilson’s arm, legs, and brain have picked apart defenses this year. A solid runner, great passer, and outstanding decision-maker, Wilson has displayed maturity, leadership, and confidence beyond his years.
In the last game against San Francisco, Wilson completed an atrocious 9 of 23 passes for 122 yards, with one interception.
Calls for Matt Flynn could be heard. But now he’s leading the league in QBR over the last six weeks, throwing a remarkable 11 touchdowns and one interception in that span.
Wilson 2.0 will need to show up to this game.
If Our D-Line Gets Some Huge Stops
Last year San Francisco’s ground game rocked Seattle, as Frank Gore rushed to the tune of 131 yards. Gore also owns the two highest single-game yardage records for the 49ers, with games of 212 and 207 yards. Both were against Seattle. The Hawks will need to limit Gore. San Francisco has a strong offensive line, and injured left tackle Joe Staley has been cleared to return from a concussion to play.
Let’s also not forget Gore’s primary backup, the electric LaMichael James, who torched the Patriots last weekend on a 62 yard kick return that gave the Niners a much needed boost. But Gore is the primary threat to Seattle’s playoff dreams.
The Seahawks offensive line HAVE to give Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin room on Sunday night.
If The Offensive Line Gives Our RB’s Opportunities
The flip side is we’ll need our offensive line to give Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin room to work with. San Francisco starting defensive tackle Justin Smith is questionable for the game, which would help the Seahawks.
Marshawn Lynch is actually second in the NFL in rushing yards, which has garnered less attention because Adrian Peterson is having such a ridiculous season.
But Lynch has produced 1379 yards and ten touchdowns this season. Seattle will need to prove they can make plays on the ground, which leaves a lot riding on the line.
If The Secondary Holds Up
With Brandon Browner suspended and Richard Sherman potentially too (although he tweeted the other day that he would play), a lot may ride on backups Marcus Trufant and Walter Thurmond, both of whom have nagging injury issues.
Luckily, San Francisco’s biggest threat at wide receiver, the recently hot Michael Crabtree, shouldn’t be impossible for Sherman to mark up if he plays.
Mario Manningham is still out with a shoulder injury, so the only other concern for the Seahawks is athletic tight end Vernon Davis, who is a potential matchup problem.
Seattle’s vaunted defense will need to live up to its reputation.
If The Clink Is As Rowdy As Ever
This is the easiest.
A playoff spot is on the line.
The Seahawks are the hottest thing in the NFL. This is arguably the biggest game of the year. CenturyLink field is going to be loud.
Seattle lives or dies on this game, and we’ll need every bit of that vaunted home field advantage. No one has beaten the Seahawks at home since last Christmas Eve.
The last team to win in Seattle?
This is going to be bloody.
Two very similar teams in many regards-new quarterbacks, elite running backs, suffocating defenses-will clash in Century Link, with the NFC west potentially on the line.
Look for a defensive battle, with the 12th man giving the Hawks a boost.

Russell Wilson: How Russell Wilson is he?
If you haven’t heard of Russell Wilson, it’s not my fault.
Seahawks: This is a test. This is not only a test. This game has as much interest built in to make it feel like a conference championship game. At the very least, it’s more attractive than a divisional championship, even though that’s not at stake here. The “draw” here...
I sense that’s there’s a lot of people baffled about the Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson.
I say that their baffled, because they don’t seemed to be saying anything at all about the Seahawks season. It seems that everyone tries to explain away every big win by the Seahawks this season. The Green Bay Packers win was dismissed, because of a blown call by the replacement...
Seattle Seahawks thoroughly enjoyed their 42-13 victory over the San Francisco 49ers Sunday night.
Second-year cornerback Richard Sherman wanted to continue the Seahawks two-week trend of scoring 50 points on opponents, telling Yahoo! Sports, "I'm not gonna lie to you, I told Pete, 'Let's score and go for two.' He said, 'We have more class than that...
Start ‘em & Sit ‘em Week 16
Fantasy Football – Seattle Seahawks Week 16 predictions
The Seattle Seahawks are on fire! They have scored 50+ points in two straight games – amazing. But that said it hasn’t translated into a whole lotta Fantasy love unless you were one of the brave souls that started Russell Wilson last week!
In Week 16 the Hawks face one of the best defenses...
After completely dismantling the San Francisco 49ers 42-13, the 10-5 Seattle Seahawks are back in the playoffs since 2010.With a win next week in the season finally against the St. Louis Rams (7-7-1), and a loss by the 49ers (10-4-1) to the Arizona Cardinals (5-10), the Seahawks, will beat the odds and win the NFC West. The performance that Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson...
In the final game of week 16 on Sunday Night Football, the Seattle Seahawks took it to the San Francisco 49ers, dominating the game in all three phases. Russell Wilson had the first four touchdown game of his young career. The 49ers offense was held to two field goals and a late touchdown, by a Seahawks defense that swarmed to the ball all night. After putting on such an impressive...
As a football fan base we have a tendency to overreact to the outcome of primetime games - with that said, Seattle’s statement victory over San Francisco should be viewed as a very significant development heading into the post-season.
Seattle remains undefeated at home and they are currently riding a four game win streak into their season finale. The three most recent games...
Written By Clifford S.M. Russell Wilson and Robert Griffin are both smarter, more efficient and more accurate than Andrew Luck is. But in the media’s haste to make Luck out to be Johnny Unitas they’ll never admit it…..at least they haven’t yet…….What they WILL concede, of course, is that Wilson and Griffin are more “mobile” than Luck is…..…but that’s about...
Whoever wasn’t on the Seahawks bandwagon, you can jump on board now.
They just proved they can hang with anyone, and I honestly believe they are Super Bowl contenders.

Before you dismiss me as a homer, think back on Seattle’s season.
They beat the Pats, Green Bay, Chicago, and now the 49ers. The class of the league have...
The NFL’s Most Valuable Player is… Russell Wilson?
Apologies in advance for jumping the gun on naming a 2012 NFL MVP. I realize that there are still two weeks left in the regular season, but I had time to write this post today, so to hell with the NFL’s 17 week schedule!http://fantasydouche.com/2012/12/the-nfls-most-valuable-player-is-russell-wilson/?utm_source...
I’m going to be pretty peeved if the world ends before I get a chance to see the Seahawks and 49ers rematch on Sunday. The Mayan apocalypse can wait until after we see what is shaping up to be one of the best games of the season. The implications of the game are huge; if the 49ers win the game, they claim the NFC west … if the Seahawks win, there’s still a chance that they’ll...
This team just continues to impress me.
Now sitting at #2 all time in a three game scoring spree at 150 points!
I said it before, but who in the hell stole my Seahawks and replaced them with real football players?
Arizona, and Buffalo are one thing, but San Francisco was the unanimous “best team” in the league last week, and we just destroyed them tonight.
A good ol’ fashion shoving match broke out during the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. Some may call it a brawl or a fight but one thing is for sure. These guys didn’t like each other. The fight occurred right before the Seahawks put up 42 points over the San Francisco 49er defense. Flags were thrown and linemen were getting into it with each other.
SEATTLE -- Expected to be a tight, hard-hitting national show between two teams and coaches with a profound disdain for each other, Sunday night's game devolved into a bludgeoning. The Seattle Seahawks earned their fourth consecutive victory with a 42-13 dismantling of the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night in front of 68,161 manic fans at CenturyLink Field. Seattle's...
Ever since the site joined Yardbarker, we have been graced by increased readership, and a more vibrant comment section.
