In the immortal words of Lou Brown from Major League, “We won a game yesterday. If we win today, it's called "two in a row". And if we win again tomorrow, it's called a "winning streak"...It has happened before!”
Well, here we are. The Indians are coming off their third win in a row and are on that elusive winning streak after squeaking past Gio Gonzalez and the Nationals 2-1 in walk-off fashion on Friday night as the red-hot Jason Kipnis drove in Drew Stubbs on a fielder’s choice RBI groundout in the bottom of the ninth.
Funny how earlier this week, it felt like the sky was falling and the Indians would never win again. It just goes to show you that you can’t make an intelligent judgment on a team’s season as a whole based on an eight-game stretch. Yes, losing streaks are frustrating, but in a 162-game season, eight or so games don’t play a major factor into the grand scheme of things. And teams are capable of turning things around at any time as the Ind...
BEST OF MAXIM
The Cleveland Indians may be thrilled to return home.
Justin Masterson may be the most relieved.
Coming off a lackluster road trip, the Indians hope Masterson can continue his home dominance in Friday night's series opener with the Washington Nationals.
Cleveland (32-33) opened a nine-game road trip by losing seven in a row before finding some solace in winning the last two,...
NOW THAT IS GROSS
The Mariners and Athletics were exposed to a sewage backup Sunday in Oakland, forcing both teams to flee their locker rooms.
Cleveland, OH -- Jason Kipnis hit a run-scoring fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth that plated Drew Stubbs from third as the Cleveland Indians beat the Washington Nationals in the opener of a three-game series, 2-1.
With the win, the Indians have now won three games in a row after losing eight in a row. The Tribe pitching staff has allowed two runs or fewer in all...
CLEVELAND -- Every loss is supposed to count as one, but some sure feel like they count a lot more.So it was Saturday night with the Indians, who saw an excellent comeback turn into a crushing 7-6 defeat to the Washington Nationals. It was so crushing that manager Terry Francona called what happened in the top of the ninth inning heartbreaking, a rare use of an emotional word by the...
CLEVELAND -- Streaks happen. And the Indians have a small one going after they won a game for the sixth time this season on their last at-bat in Progressive Field. The team that won 18-of-22 and then lost 16-of-20 has won three in a row after beating Washington 2-1 with a bottom-of-the-ninth rally. But three good games does not mean the Indians are shrugging off what happened prior...
Basking in the Indians third consecutive win, a quick rebound from an absolutely horrendous stretch, the Indians peak and valley tendencies have shown their ugly head. And as with many streaks, when it rained it poured, something which we can actually see manifested statistically in BABIP.
Over the last fourteen games the Tribe’s offense posted a BABIP of .275 (23rd in baseball...
First and foremost, Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there who are celebrating with your kids today. There’s nothing more “Father’s Day” to me than a little bit of baseball, a little bit of U.S. Open Golf, and a whole lot of relaxing.
Well, some of us have to write a bit, but you get what I’m talking about.
To those that spend even a few extra minutes to stop...
CLEVELAND (AP) --Jason Kipnis' run-scoring fielder's choice in the ninth inning lifted the Cleveland Indians to a 2-1 victory over the Washington Nationals on Friday night.
With runners on second and third and one out, Kipnis hit a hard ground ball to the right side. First baseman Adam LaRoche made a diving backhanded stop and fired a throw to catcher Kurt Suzuki, but Drew...
CLEVELAND (AP) -- Corey Kluber pitched eight shutout innings and the Cleveland Indians spoiled Stephen Strasburg's return with a 2-0 win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday.
Kluber (5-4) escaped three big jams to win for the first time in 11 career starts at Progressive Field.
Kluber gave up seven hits, struck out eight and didn't walk a batter. He wiggled out of trouble...
The draft has come and gone, and now it is time for my annual post draft piece. It was a very interesting draft and as always had a lot of trends that I found while following it.
I have to start with the first pick Clint Frazier. He was fourth on my board and I had done enough research that he seemed like everything the Indians look for in players. In the end I will pat myself on...

CHARLOTTE- After splitting a doubleheader Friday night against the Charlotte Knights, the Columbus Clippers snatched a win Saturday night, 4-2.
Columbus’ offense boomed in the first inning scoring all four of their runs, while Charlotte was unable to make up for the deficit throughout the game. The Clippers retrieved three pitchers to finish the game, but all three pitched scoreless...
I know Cleveland has often been the subject of my ridicule – and it’s deserved. But there was a time in my life when I dabbled in Cleveland Indians baseball. Admittedly, as an early teenager it was hard not to get sucked into the 1996-2000 Cleveland Indians. I studied tape of Manny Ramirez’s swing and tried to model my offensive approach after him; hitting to all fields. Plus...
Yesterday I looked at two starting pitchers who had very similar numbers. Because there are so many pitchers, I’m doing it again and comparing two more starters today. As usual, see if you can guess the identities of the players before they are revealed later in the article.(Stats are as of Thursday, June 13; ADPs are from Mock Draft Central; % Owned are from Yahoo!)While these...
