OTTAWA -- As much as Canadians like to go south at this time of year, the Ottawa Senators always welcome a visit by the Florida Panthers. Kyle Turris scored twice and Craig Anderson kicked aside 31 shots for the shutout as the Senators dumped the Panthers 4-0 on Monday night at Scotiabank Place. The Senators have sent the Panthers away disappointed six times in row and also have won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two clubs north of the border. The Senators, who are off to a 2-0 start, next take on the Panthers (1-1) Thursday in Florida. Fourth-line center Jim O’Brien and rookie winger Jakob Silfverberg had the other Senators goals. It was O'Brien's first of the season and the first of Silfverberg's career. Turris now has three in two games. Ottawa had a strong start in its home opener, outshooting the visitors 18-4 in the first period but managing only a 1-0 lead. The goal came on a power play, with Turris one-timing a tough-angle shot by Panthers goalie Jose Theodore. The Panthers were too busy killing off two other penalties in the first period to get any type of momentum or sustained attack. They also started slowly in the second period, barely testing Anderson before Turris deflected in a pass from Guillaume Latendresse at 12:07. Tomas Kopecky had a solid opportunity to cut the deficit in half during the last minute of the period, but Anderson knocked away his shot from the left wing. Theodore kept the Panthers' hopes alive with a glove save off Andre Benoit 15 minutes into the third period, but despite a couple of close-range chances, the Panthers couldn't solve Anderson. The O'Brien and Silfverberg goals came in the final 2:25 of the third period. NOTES: Canadian hockey fans continue to forgive the NHL and its players for the lockout. More than 19,500 were on hand at Scotiabank Place, which lists capacity at 19,153. ... He couldn't do it the first game because of lineup restrictions, but Florida coach Kevin Dineen now has Filip Kuba with Brian Campbell as his No. 1 defensive pairing. It was an obvious fit for Dineen, who saw Kuba help Erik Karlsson to a Norris Trophy last season. Karlsson and Campbell are similar players. "That's going to be our snapshot, that those two will play together," said Dineen. "It's a little bit because of what we saw out of Filip last year, and what we know he can still do." .... Panthers RW Alexei Kovalev played his first game in Ottawa since the Senators traded him to Pittsburgh for a seventh-round pick last season. Naturally, he was booed every time he touched the puck. ... Rookie Patrick Wiercioch has set up the Senators' initial goal in each of the first two games.
