Follow @TheNosebleeds Follow @Davis_VanOpdorp For the second time this year, The Red Sox are facing another divisional opponent. This time, they have to face the reigning pennant winners. The Detroit Tigers are back where they have been ever since they acquired Miguel Cabrera and promoted Justin Verlander to the major leagues. They might be in one of Baseball’s weakest division, but that has not stopped them before from winning the pennant. The Red Sox sit only a game and a half above the Baltimore Orioles, who crushed the Tigers in two of the three games they played in Detroit. If Boston wants to keep pace, they’ll need to score more than the three-run and two-run showings that they put up in their last two games. The Orioles are pecking at the top spot of the division, and Boston needs to sock it to the Tigers before Detroit have a chance to bite back. Series: 4 Games @ Detroit Tigers (Comerica Park, Detroit, MI) Probable Starters (Career vs. Opponent) April 20, 7:08 PM EDT RHP John Lackey (6-2, 4.01 ERA) vs. LHP José Álvarez (0-0, -.– ERA) April 21, 7:08 PM EDT LHP Jon Lester (0-2, 4.78 ERA) vs. RHP Doug Fister (1-3, 4.09 ERA) April 22, 7:15 PM EDT RHP Allen Webster (0-0, -.– ERA) vs. RHP Max Scherzer (1-3, 9.21 ERA) April 23, 1:08 PM EDT LHP Félix Doubront (1-0, 3.00 ERA) vs. RHP Justin Verlander (3-4, 3.38 ERA) Storylines The Red Sox are facing their first left-handed starter since June 8th when C.J. Wilson of the Los Angeles Angels took the mound at Fenway Park. What does this mean? More Jonny Gomes. The Outfielder will likely get the start tonight against José Álvarez, and that is only good news for the Red Sox. He has a .344 batting average in June along with two home runs and six RBI. Part of Gomes’s Major League legacy is his susceptibility to hot streaks. Well, he’s hot now, so stick him in the lineup and let him keep streaking. The left-handed starter also means that José Iglesias will substitute for Stephen Drew. His hit-streak ended on Wednesday’s finale against the Tampa Bay Rays, but he still has been stellar at the plate and defensively to earn a spot on the roster. John Farrell promised the media that his young shortstop would get three days a week around the diamond, but does he deserve more now? With Will Middlebrooks hitting below the Mendoza-line and not playing well at the hot corner, maybe Iglesias will slowly put Middlebrooks in the middle of the bench. Enjoy the series! Detroit Tigers: is Justin Verlander going to figure it out?

After four solid starts in a row Justin Verlander struck a bit of fear into the hearts of Detroit Tigers fans last night when the Baltimore Orioles roughed him up. During the month of May, JV saw his ERA jump from 1.93 to 3.66 over the span of just two starts. He seemed to right the ship until last night, when the hard-hitting O’s hung 7 hits (2 homers) and 5 earned runs on him...

Kate Upton zings Justin Verlander?

A tweet that was sent out and subsequently deleted by the S.I. cover girl seems to take a shot at her rumored ex-boyfriend.

Two Miguel Cabreras?

DETROIT - Chase Salazar got to live out a childhood dream for many people Friday when he put on a Detroit Tigers No. 24 uniform and played the body double for slugger Miguel Cabrera during a commercial shoot for FOX Sports at Comerica Park. While other extras told him they had spent six hours trying to perfect Cabrera's swing in hopes of being selected, Salazar got the part...

Manny Machado Really Is The New Brooks Robinson Or Something

The O’s beat Justin Verlander and the Tigers yesterday, continuing strong play of late to give them the AL’s third-best record. Manny Machado chipped in with his league-leading 32nd double and “two sparkling plays at third base.” Neither of those are new for Machado, who’s on pace to break baseball’s season record for doubles and who draws natural comparisons to Baltimore...

Cabrera gets taste of limelight, stars in commercial

DETROIT - Miguel Cabrera, baseball's incredibly underexposed superstar, got a little taste of the Hollywood life Friday morning. Cabrera took part in a movie-like production for a 90-second commercial to promote the launch of the Fox Sports 1 television network. He's one of the top athletes featured in the spot that will be aired for the first time July 16 during FOX'...

Detroit Tigers Game 69 Grades: Miguel Cabrera Leads Parade of Missed Opportunities

Justin Verlander faltered and the Detroit Tigers’ offense failed on numerous occasions to up its ace, as the Baltimore Orioles grabbed a 5-2 win at Comerica Park. Here are the grades for Tuesday night’s game: The Lineup 1. Austin Jackson: B-plus. Jackson finished a respectable 1-for-3, but he did his very best to rally the troops in the closing innings. A-Jax walked in the fifth...

Kate Upton Throws a Little Jab at Justin Verlander via Twitter

If we needed any confirmation that Kate Upton doesn’t like Justin Verlander as much as she allegedly used to, a happy birthday tweet she sent to Frank Viola III on Wednesday confirmed it. What does Frank Viola III, a son of the famed left-handed pitcher with a similar name, have to do with ex-SuperCouple Kate ‘n’ Justin? He’s one of Verlander‘s best friends and, apparently...

Kate Upton Sends Bitter Subtweet To Ex Boyfriend Justin Verlander

Trot Times for June 19, 2013

Today is the 10th anniversary of Miguel Cabrera's Major League debut. What did he do that day? Not much, just hit a walkoff home run (it was his first big league hit). The trot? ~20.64 seconds. In the three-plus years of the Tater Trot Tracker, Cabrera's fastest timed trot was 20.93 seconds (hit this year). Now on to the trots! Your browser does not support iframes...

Red Sox Likely to Have Hands Full With Tigers’ Dominant Pitching, Hitting Duos

There can be no argument that the best 1-2 hitting punch in Major League Baseball is Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers. The scary thing now about the defending American League champions is they have an argument for the best 1-2 pitching punch in the game, as well. That’s because Max Scherzer has gone to a new level and might be even filthier than Justin Verlander...

Dustin Pedroia-David Ortiz, Miguel Cabrera-Prince Fielder Among Best 3-4 Combos in MLB This Season (Video)

Dustin Pedroia doesn’t look like a typical No. 3 hitter, but combined with David Ortiz, the two are among the best 3-4 combos in Major League Baseball. The Red Sox face off against another tough duo on Thursday in Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder. The two sluggers have combined for a .324 average, 31 home runs and 125 RBIs.
