Shelley Duncans stop at Triple-A Durham has included a savory prize: Free steak. Duncan, who went 10 for 55 (.182 batting average) with two home runs and six RBI in 20 games with the Tampa Bay Rays this season, smacked a solo home run to left field in the second inning Sunday during the Bulls 7-4 victory over the ScrantonWilkes-Barre RailRiders. Yes, this lacked the drama of a game-ending show of power. However, Duncan's display was much more satisfying than a run-of-the-mill homer, at least to his taste buds. Duncans second-inning shot hit Durham Bulls Athletic Parks famous Snorting Bull, the first time a ball has struck the sign this season. As part of the Hit Bull Win Steak promotion, Duncan and a fortunate fan receive steak dinners at a local steakhouse. Hit Bull, Win Steak!! Shelley Duncan rips a solo shot off the Snorting Bull, the first player to do so this season. Durham Bulls (@DurhamBulls) June 2, 2013 And yes, Duncan does win a steak for hitting the Bull. He and a lucky fan get hooked up with steak dinners from Capital City Chop House. Durham Bulls (@DurhamBulls) June 2, 2013 Duncan, sent outright to Durham on May 3, is hitting .262 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 22 games with the Bulls. After Sunday, he can add "one steak dinner" to that line. You can follow Andrew Astleford on Twitter @aastleford or email him at aastleford@gmail.com.

State of the Rays: Tampa Bay's bats heat up in May

For the Tampa Bay Rays, May was a month of an offensive awakening. It seems odd to consider now, but there was a time in April, particularly during a nine-game road trip to Texas and Boston and Baltimore, when there was concern about how the Rays would produce enough to stay competitive. At the time, newcomers such as James Loney and Yunel Escobar hit below .200 with an on-base percentage...

Former bust busts a move, scores

Not all that long ago, the Tampa Bay Rays made Tim Beckham the No. 1 pick of the MLB Draft. And even more not all that long ago, he now-23-year-old's off-the-field actions made him seem almost destined to join the growing list of Rays prospects to flame out -- gloriously . But if the No. 1 pick of the 2008 draft keeps showing the moves he showed on Friday night, perhaps the...
