Found October 25, 2012 on Patriots Life:
So, I am going to preface this blog with this: there is no way the Pats will move McCourty to safety full time, at least not this season. However, having said that, should they? Personally, I think it is the best move for this team. McCourty has looked like a natural back there in the short sample size, and his strengths (playing with the game in front of him, tackling, being in the right position) are accentuated when playing safety and his weaknesses (inability to turn to the ball, ability to play with proper technique) are nullified when playing safety. As Doug Keyd at nesn.com notesHe's also the team's best safety -- ball skills when the play is in front of him, excellent range, good size and a willingness to hit. He's wasted on the perimeter while the team is trying to find someone to button down the downfield support. And, as Tom E Curran notes, the difference between McCourty and the other corners really isn't that big.Devin McCourty's got safety skills. A...

The Patriots are going to make the playoffs. The big question is, how far will they go? A look at their remaining schedule and the AFC East

The Patriots are still the best franchise in the AFC.  The problem is that their weaknesses are the same every season.  They have a weak defense and no deep threat on the outside.  Last year they tried to use Chad Johnson and this year is Lloyd, neither are helping out.  The defense is young and can be exposed.  How far can they go? Here's a look at their remaining schedule...

Tom Brady Ensures that Patriots' Visit to London Isn't Sightseeing Mission (Video)

The Patriots' jaunte across the pond to England is not a vacation -- Tom Brady is making that clear. After a six hour flight that moved the team's collective watch five hours ahead, however, the Patriots actually did head out for a romp in the park. While the Rams practiced in a field at their hotel, New England took to London's famous -- and very public...

Patriots Fantasy Football: It's time for Brandon Lloyd to hit the bench

Brandon Lloyd has been a disappointment thus far in the season in more ways than one for Patriot fans. And although Lloyd's spectacular sideline grabs may temporarily blind Pats fans from his other weaknesses, his inability to catch easy passes almost cost New England the game against the Jets last week. Lloyd dropped two passes over the middle that would've gone for big...

Robert Kraft: Lombardi Award winner

On Nov. 3, New England Patriots' owner Robert Kraft will receive the inaugural NFL Players Association Georgetown Lombardi Award. The award is given to a sports leader whose life has been touched by cancer, encourages research and prevention through awareness and philanthropy, according to the press release. Bob Kraft lost his wife, Myra, to the disease last year. Kraft will...

Visanthe Shiancoe Excited About Return to Practice Field, Ready to Contribute for Patriots

Visanthe Shiancoe hadn't stepped onto the football field for the Patriots this season. That changed Tuesday afternoon. The 32-year-old tight end has been on short-term injured reserved with an undisclosed injury since the Patriots first signed him back on Sept. 5. But on Tuesday, the nine-year veteran finally returned the practice field, and he couldn't...

Fantasy Football Injury News Week Eight: Aaron Hernandez does not travel to London

Fantasy football owners of TE Aaron Hernandez have had to adjust their rosters this season due to his injury issues this season. This week, Hernandez owners will have to once again look elsewhere for production at the tight end position. The New England Patriots will play the St. Louis Rams in London this week, but Aaron Hernandez will not be playing, in fact, he didn’t even make...

Patriots invade Britain

According to the New England Patriots official Facebook page, the Pats arrived at Heathrow Airport in London 10 minutes ago, at 2:18 a.m., Eastern time. Below is a photo that the Patriots Facebook and Instagram accounts uploaded yesterday, prior to Vince Wilfork and the team's flight to England.

Vote: How Many Passing Yards Will Sam Bradford Throw for in Sunday's Game Against the Patriots?

The Patriots secondary has been the brunt of recent coverage jokes, and rightfully so. The Pats have given up 290 yards of offense through the air per game, ranking them as the fourth-worst team in the NFL in that category. The three teams beneath them are the Saints, Buccaneers and Redskins, who have a combined record of 7-12. Yet, with all of their defensive woes, New England sits...

Patriots Must Improve

The New England Patriots are 4-3 and look like a very mediocre football team right now. “The Patriots are one of the best teams in the NFL”, well at least that is what everyone was saying before the season started.  After the week one beat down of the Tennessee Titans, it looked like those people were correct, but since then it has been a different...

Patriots To London Without Hernandez

Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images The New England Patriots make their business trip to London to face the St. Louis Cardinals without their playmaker at tight end, Aaron Hernandez.  He suffered a setback in practice earlier in the week with difficulty making cuts due to an ankle injury. Hernandez left the game early in a loss to the Cardinals on September 16th when teammate Julian Edelman...

From The PFW Archives – A Look at CBS’ 50th Anniversary of NFL Coverage

This column originally appeared in the October 27th, 2009 edition of Patriots Football Weekly. Some minor updates/additions are in this version. CBS Also Golden This Season By Bruce Allen When a couple celebrates their 50th wedding anniversary there is often a natural tendency to look back at the “glory days” of the past. In the case of the New England Patriots and CBS sports...
