Leading scorer Tomas Fleischmann and goaltender Jacob Markstrom are among six Florida Panthers who will play for their native countries in this years World Hockey Championship. Left wing Fleischmann, who totaled 35 points in 48 games this season, will play for the Czech Republic and Markstrom for Sweden during the May 3-19 event in Stockholm, Sweden, and Helsinki, Finland. Center Nick Bjugstad (USA), defenseman Brian Campbell (Canada), center Marcel Goc (Germany) and right wing Tomas Kopecky (Slovakia) also will play in the tournament. Fleischmann, 28, has represented the Czech Republic on the international level on several occasions, including the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2008 World Championship. Markstrom, 23, was 8-14-1 in 23 games with Florida this season. He went 3-0 with a 1.33 GA to help Sweden earn a Bronze medal at the 2010 World Championship. Kopecky, 31, had a team-high 15 goals and 12 assists this season. He earned a Silver medal with Team Slovakia in last years World Championship and represented his country at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Goc, 29, had 9 goals and 10 assists this season. He has played for Germany in the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics and six World Championships. He was team captain in last years tournament. Campbell, 33, led Panthers defensemen with 27 points (8 goals, 19 assist). Hell be playing in his first World Championship for Team Canada. Bjugstad, 20, played in 11 games (for Florida this season, after completing his junior year at the University of Minnesota. The World Hockey Championship is run by the International Ice Hockey Federation.
