Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan is quoted on the website as saying Martel's daughter was home at the time of the killing.
Martel was stabbed to death, according to Boston.com.

Neither the Red Sox nor NESN have released statements regarding the case.

For a few moments, it looked like this would be another comeback for the ages. With the Sox down 3-1 and down to their final out, the spiraling Mike Napoli came through big time, launching a two-run homer to tie the game and keep hope alive.
Sadly, we couldn’t push it any further, even after loading the bases in that same inning. In the top of the tenth, Naps came up again with...
One of the greatest rivalries in sports resumes Friday night at Fenway Park where the first place Red Sox square off against the fourth place Yankees. This proves to be a key series for both teams as the Red Sox look to strengthen their division lead while the Yankees try to climb back into the American League East race. As of now if the season were to end today the Red Sox would...
A little heightened Red Sox Yankees tension.
John Lackey isn’t really one to hold back, so it comes as no surprise that he would voice his opinion on the A-rod playing while appealing suspension situation.
I’ve got a problem with it. You bet I do,” Lackey said on Thursday. “How is he still playing? He obviously did something and he’s playing. I’m not sure that’s...
Few things say Boston more than Fenway Park and a Duck Tour. Now, the Red Sox will provide their fans with a chance to experience both on an upcoming game night.
While Boston is on its next homestand from Aug. 27 through Sept. 4, fans will be able to park their cars for free at the Prudential Center and hop on a free Boston Duck Tour, which will head right to Fenway Park. Fans will...
Will Middlebrooks has shown improvement since being recalled to the Red Sox. But don’t expect the Xander Bogaerts conversation to go anywhere.
Bogaerts continues to impress at Triple-A Pawtucket, which is causing quite the stir about when the Red Sox will finally call up their top prospect. General manager Ben Cherington joined WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan on Thursday, and he was...
Winners of their last four games, the Pawtucket Red Sox come into Thursday night's game vs. the Louisville Bats riding high by leading the International League wildcard standings by a half a game over the Norfolk Tides. Anthony Ranaudo makes his third Triple-A start for the Pawsox and has been solid so far despite struggling last time out in Syracuse allowing five runs in five...
Things are turning bleak for the Boston Red Sox, who lost their third straight game and sixth of their last eight. A four-game lead in the AL East has dwindled to just one over the Tampa Bay Rays and after a 10-3 thumping by the rival New York Yankees, those in Red Sox Nation are beginning to fear the worse.
The Sox (72-52) can certainly turn it...
Another day, another game of missed opportunities for the struggling Boston Red Sox.
Pinch hitter Mark DeRosa hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, Mark Buehrle pitched seven innings to win his fourth straight decision and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Boston 2-1 on Thursday night.
''Tonight, the story is (runners) left on base,'' Red Sox manager John...
Two words for Red Sox fans this morning - Rajai Davis.
Davis scored the winning run for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the tenth inning on a Brett Lawrie single to hand Boston a 4-3 loss. But it was what happened during a Davis at bat seven innings earlier that gave you the feeling this one wasn't going to go well for the Sox.
You see it...
Mark Reynolds, Alfonso Soriano and the rest of the Yankees got their hacks in Friday night, but if Red Sox fans had to pick any pitcher to come to the mound to halt Boston’s three-game losing streak (aside from a healthy Clay Buchholz), it would be John Lackey.
Despite having not recorded a win since July 12 and not faring all that well in his last outing against the Bronx Bombers...
(AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Nathan Denette)Sometime down the road, the Red Sox may look back on this gut-wrenching 4-3 loss with a series of regrets. They may regret letting Rajai Davis hit an inside-the-multiple-errors-HR to score the game's first run. They may regret squandering Mike Napoli's dramatic ninth-inning, two-out, two-run HR that tied the game. They might...
David Ortiz says he’s as surprised as anyone with the Blue Jays’ poor performance this year.
“When I saw what they put together in the offseason I was like ‘Whoa this is the competition.’ ”
Of course it didn’t turn out that way as Ortiz’s first-place Red Sox sit a comfortable 15 games ahead of the last-place Jays.
But Toronto at least lived up to Big Papi’s expectations...
The Boston Red Sox are beginning a three-game series against the New York Yankees on Friday night at Fenway Park. John Lackey is scheduled to pitch for Boston on Saturday, but he is not looking forward to facing Alex Rodriguez. It’s not that he fears the Yankees slugger — he just doesn’t think he deserves […]
Drabek added a spark to the Bisons bullpen Wednesday, pitching three scoreless innings. (Kathy Willens/Associated Press)
Wednesday was a mix of good and bad news for the Buffalo Bisons.
The Herd entered their important three game series with Rochester with some bad news, hearing Pawtucket had defeated Louisville 6-5 earlier in the afternoon.
Trying to keep pace, Buffalo knew they...
Felix Doubront had nothing, the Red Sox offense only a little more, and the resurgent Yankees came away with a 10-3 win last night in the opener of a three-game series at Fenway Park. The loss was the third in a row for Boston and the sixth in the last eight games.
The Yankees scored in each of the first four innings. Doubront (pictured) gave...
