Earlier this morning news broke that Paralympic gold medallist Oscar Pistorius had fatally shot his girlfriend—believed by many to be model Reeva Steenkamp—at his home after believing her to be an intruder. Sources speculate that Steenkamp’s death was the result of a Valentine’s Day surprise gone horribly wrong. While much of what is known is purely speculative, what we do know is this—a 30-year-old woman was shot dead at the Pretoria home of 26-year-old Oscar “Blade Runner” Pistorius, and that the reports that Pistorius mistook Steenkamp for a burglar did not come from the police. And finally, in a somewhat surprising development, police have charged the 2012 Olympic runner with the murder of Steenkamp. Under normal circumstances the South African police do not name suspects in crimes until they’ve had their day in court, but since Pistorius was at his home the time of the shooting, and since there is no other suspect involved, this protocol was ignored. While addressing the media early Thursday morning, South African police spokesperson Denise Beukes said that witnesses heard strange noises coming from the house prior to, and around the time of the incident. She also went on to say that police had been to Pistorius’ home on previous occasions, involving incidents of a “domestic nature” (via CBS  News)… Buekes said police had been called to the home on previous occasions over “allegations of a domestic nature,” but she would not elaborate on when those incidents at Pistorius’ house occurred, or who was involved. She said there were “no signs of forced entry” at the house Thursday morning. Pistorius, the first double amputee athlete to appear in the Olympic games, is set to appear in court Friday so that forensics investigators have enough time to do their work. Knowing what we know now, as little as it is, makes this tweet from Reeva Steenkamp all the more sad and tragic… What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow??? #getexcited #ValentinesDay — Reeva Steenkamp (@reevasteenkamp) February 13, 2013 [USA Today] The post South African police to charge Paralympian Oscar Pistorius with murder appeared first on Last Angry Fan.
