The Gamecocks (11-2) were ranked No. 8 in the country in the final AP poll of the year and finished ranked No. 7 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll.
When we heard the news, this was our reaction:

The below photo of the South Carolina state line sign is clearly photoshopped to include a sign telling visitors to beware of South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

Aleighsa Welch led No. 18 South Carolina with 16 points and seven rebounds as the Gamecocks rolled over Mississippi State 60-46 Sunday for their first Southeastern Conference victory of the year.
Welch was 5-of-9 shooting and made 6 of 8 from the foul line. Sancheon White added 11 points as nine different players scored for South Carolina (13-2, 1-1), which dropped its SEC opener...
University of South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was selected by fans as college football's All-America Player of the Year.
South Carolina wide receiver and punt returner Ace Sanders will return for his senior year in 2013.
The Gamecocks recorded their highest-ever finish in the final college football polls.
