Sorry Rangers fans. It looks like David Ortiz and the Red Sox are minutes away from agreeing on a new contract.
Reports are coming in from all over that the deal is getting done.
Rob Bradford says the two sides are "very close".
Pete Abe says, "You can expect the #RedSox to sign Ortiz before the night is out. Everything pointing that way, two sources said."
Jon Heyman tweeted, "David ortiz and #redsox are finalizing an agreement. Good to see great marriage stay together."
If you're looking for contract terms, Marino Pepén (yeah, I don't know who he is either) tweets, "David Ortíz y #RedSox acaban de arribar a un acuerdo por 2 años y 26 MM." That's Spanish for a 2 year, $26 million deal.
Boston had until midnight before Papi became a free agent, and it looks like we can avoid that stress altogether. Which is a great thing, because from everything I've read today, the Rangers interest in Ortiz was legitimate. Which very well may have been the motivation the Sox needed to get a deal done.
We should find out more details shortly.
