from Steve Hunt at NHL.com, The Dallas Stars honored a fallen former teammate on Saturday afternoon. Karlis Skrastins, who played in Dallas from 2009-2011, was honored before the club’s game against the Calgary Flames at American Airlines Center. Skrastines was among those killed when a plane carrying Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL crashed last September. “Obviously it was really tough to see his family, first time for me to get to see them after the tragedy. It was pretty emotional,” Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas said. “It was a nice gesture by the Stars honoring Skratch. I think we kind of dedicated our season right from the get go (to his memory). We all know he played with heart and passion. He was the kind of guy that never complained. He was just willing to do anything for his teammates.” continue and watch the video tribute below… Continue reading "Stars Pay Tribute To Karlis Skrastins"

The Dallas Stars have signed Reilly Smith to a three-year entry-level contract, taking the forward from college to the NHL. The contract was announced Sunday, two days after the 20-year-old Smith played in an NCAA regional semifinal game for Miami (Ohio), a 4-3 overtime loss to UMass. Smith, a third-round pick by the Stars in the 2009 NHL draft, will join the team for the four...

Road swing could determine Stars' playoff fate

On Saturday afternoon at American Airlines Center, the Dallas Stars beat the Calgary Flames 4-1 in a game that was actually much closer than the final score indicated. The Stars had a 2-0 lead in the opening frame before the Flames pulled one back before the first intermission. And the Flames were dictating the pace of the game until Stars All-Star center Jamie Benn scored his second...

The Dallas Stars signed forward Reilly Smith to a three-year entry-level contract and promptly added the Hobey Baker Award finalist to the roster. Smith, 20, had just completed his junior year at Miami University. "I think he’s a player that can help our hockey club,” Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk told ESPN Dallas. “I can look back on my own experience when I...

Bill Meltzer: Star Gazing: 3/25/12

The seesaw race that is the battle for the Pacific Division championship elevated the Dallas Stars back atop the heap less than 48 hours after the Stars tumbled from the third seed in the Western Conference to eighth in a single evening. By virtue of the Stars' 4-1 victory over Calgary in yesterday's matinee game, coupled with the LA Kings' 4-2 loss to the Boston Bruins...

Stars Get Stymied By Schneider, Lose 2-1

Final Dallas 1 - Vancouver 2 Damn that Cory Schneider. At the end of the game, that's all I could think. The Canucks nominal backup goalie played an incredible game last night as the Stars lost to the Vancouver Canucks. The loss, combined with wins by the LA Kings and Phoenix Coyotes, dropped the Stars third down to the eighth spot in the Western Conference. The Stars now...

Stars-Flames Preview

The Dallas Stars have plenty of work in front of them over the next two weeks if they're going to clinch their first playoff berth in four years, but the club feels good as it hits the road. The Calgary Flames' confidence is shaky as they return home for this critical stretch. Dallas will try to sweep this home-and-home set and the season series Monday night when the low...

Flames-Stars Preview

Just over a week ago, the Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames were both charging hard toward the playoffs. They've done little to fortify their postseason aspirations since. Having squandered several opportunities to improve their position in the Western Conference in the last week, the Stars and Flames open a critical home-and-home set Saturday afternoon in Dallas. The Stars ...
