The Milwaukee Admirals continued their Texas road trip on Wednesday night, heading to Cedar Park to face off against the Texas Stars. The Admirals came in with a 2-2 record, while Stars were off to a 3-2 start. The Admirals have not scored first in any of their first four contests, and that trend continued tonight. With Patrick Cehlin in the box after a tripping infraction the Stars were able to connect as assistant captain Travis Morin took a great pass from the corner by Francis Wathier and was able to tip it past Jeremy Smith for a 1-0 lead. Milwaukee was not able to create much offensive pressure in the first period, being held without a shot for the first 15 minutes of the game. In fact, the only pressure they put on for the first two periods was the pressure they put on the penalty box attendant who opened the door for the Admirals 8 times in the first two periods. The Stars held a 1-0 lead going into the 3rd period and were able to extend the lead at the 11:46 mark of the final frame. After a rush up the ice, Cody Eakin placed a beautiful drop pass to Jamie Oleksiak who blasted the puck home for his first professional goal. Milwaukee was finally able to get on the board with just under 5:30 to play as a wrist shot from the point by Mattias Ekholm found its way to the net, tipped in front by Mark Van Guilder. However, that was as close as Milwaukee got as once Jeremy Smith was removed for an extra attacker Stars Left Wing Mike Hedden played a nifty pass off the wall to himself, and then found Antoine Rousell streaking down the ice for the easy tap in empty net goal and a 3-1 victory. As mentioned before, the Admirals found the penalty box early and often, and although Texas only went 1-7 on the power play, the Admirals were out shot for the first time in 5 games 28-24. Stars goalie Jack Campbell stopped 23 of 24 for the win, and Admirals netminder Jeremy Smith picked up 25 saves in the loss. Milwaukee will finish up their Texas trip on Saturday with a rematch against the Houston Aeros.
