Despite the fact that the 1978 Buffalo Bills were not a very good team, they hold a prestigious modern-day NFL team record (essentially by default). The Chuck Knox-coached Bills finished 5-11, with opposing teams licking their chops in anticipation of pounding the ball against the porous Bills rushing defense; that season, Buffalo allowed an average of 201.8 rushing YPG, and allowed 23 opposing rushers to reach the end zone. The Bills, who allowed 309 rushing yards against Cleveland and 285 against Miami, held just one opponent under 100 yards on the ground. In fact, teams had so much fun running against the Bills that they forgot about the passing game. As a result, Buffalo set a modern-day (16-game schedule) record for fewest passing yards allowed in a season: 1,960 total yards or 122.5 YPG. Right on their heels, though, were the ’78 Los Angeles Rams, who allowed the second-fewest passing yards ever (2,048 / 128 YPG). In fact, 11 other teams in that 1978 season were within 435...

The Carolina-Clemson rivalry got the best of former Tiger C.J. Spiller over the weekend.

After this past Sunday’s loss to the Colts, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson claimed that head coach Chan Gailey needs to give up play-calling duties and allow quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to make the calls.
Gailey has come out and claimed that Fitzpatrick has some wiggle room when it comes to making his own calls.
“Sometimes he does. Sometimes he doesn’t,” Gailey...

Too bad for the Bills and their fans, it's a little late for a realistic postseason push.
Either way, the high-priced defensive end is starting to give Buffalo a bit of a return on its offseason investment. The Bills have slipped...
Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson has been accustomed to the starting role for three years now, and he's amassed nearly 1,000 yards in each of those years. But after a second trip to the injury list this season and the breakout performance of fellow back C.J. Spiller, he now has to become accustomed to a new role: backup. “Any player in this league wants to be on the...
BY DAN BEGNOCHEQuarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had his fair share of missed opportunities downfield in the Buffalo's Bills' loss on Sunday. That seems to be becoming a nasty habit for the veteran signal-caller.While Fitzpatrick connected with wide receiver Stevie Johnson for a 63-yard strike that lead to a field goal, he missed more than one deep throw that could have turned...

Rookie safety Delano Howell was signed to the Indianapolis Colts' active roster from the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills. Howell entered the league as an undrafted free agent from Stanford. Following Sunday’s loss to the Colts, Stevie Johnson said he wants coach Chan Gailey to give up play-calling duties.Johnson posted a 6/106/0 line, but he wasn’t happy afterward. “How I see it, I think we need to let our quarterback call these plays,” he said. “He’s out there on the field. He sees the adjustments that need to be done.” Gailey is accustomed to Johnson’s...
"You can win the World Series without Babe Ruth.''
On a few occasions, Chan Gailey would tell his coaches this before the Bills hired him as coach. Now, you could view it as being a way to say we can get a team full of good players and win without a star player. It is a team game, right? Standard coach speaking. However, after about two and half seasons worth of...
When blacked out Bills games roll around it becomes very difficult to stay vested in their success. Considering that Sunday’s game along with the St. Louis and Jets games are likely to be blacked out, I’m pretty sure my Sundays are going to be free.
If you plan on using the super-secret internet feed, good for you. If you plan on enjoying a Sunday with intermittent radio...

So my wife and I took our daughter to the Botanical Gardens Sunday – a first for all of us. It was nicely decorated for the holidays, complete with train sets and a big chair set up for Santa himself, who was scheduled for an appearance later that afternoon. We were able to get some nice pictures of the kid, and enjoyed a nice walk inside during what turned out to be a friggin’...
