The Steelers have released QB Troy Smith according to ProFootballTalk.com.  The team was going to need to release one quarterback heading into camp.  Smith was the choice.  The Steelers could not have that many QB’s on the roster.  They barely have enough reps to go around for 3 quarterbacks, let alone five.  It would just be a waste of a roster spot to have all five on the field.

The Steelers can now sign someone who can help out during camp.  Possibly a cornerback or a wide receiver.  You can always use those for scout team during practice.  This move was inevitable.  It could have been either Smith or Jerrod Johnson but the Steelers chose Smith.

Smith has now been out of the NFL for over a year and does not have much time to sign with another team.  He is less then a month away from training camp and most teams have full rosters.
