Election day is an important day that affects everyone across the United States, including collegiate athletes. Division-I athletes are typically used to a very structured routine that (ideally) involves going to class, working out and practicing, but on Tuesday those athletes that are 18 years old and older have an important responsibility — to help determine who will be the President of the United States for the next four years. When asked if he is going to allow his players time to vote on Tuesday, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier indicated he would allow a certain age bracket of players to do so. “Our players that are 21?” Spurrier asked according to USA TODAY. No, coach, that was vote — not go out and have a beer. For Spurrier’s sake, we’ll just assume he was either trying to be funny or simply wasn’t paying attention. The again, The Old Ball Coach has had to answer his fair share of questions regarding his players and alcohol in the past, so perhaps his mind is stuck on the drinking age track. Whatever the case, we hope for the sake of America he does indeed give his players who range fro ages 18-20 an opportunity to go to the polls. Photo credit: Kelly Lambert-US PRESSWIRE
