HOUSTON University of Houston football coach Kevin Sumlin on Saturday denied a report he would be named head coach at Texas A&M within 24 hours.
"That is not true," Sumlin said after his No. 6 Cougars' 49-28 loss to No. 23 Southern Miss in the Conference USA title gamein Houston."I said earlier this week I wasn't going to talk to anybody, period, during this football season. I actually said that three weeks ago. Many of the things that have been reported have now been proven to be false already. I have been consistent with that."
CBS Houston reported Saturday that Sumlin would be announced as A&M's coach by Sunday. Sumlin said there was no chance of that happening.
"No," he said. "I haven't talked to anybody. I haven't said anything to anybody about that."
Sumlin led the Cougars to a 12-1 regular season, the best in school history. His name has been linked to several job openings over the last week, most often Arizona State and Texas A&M.
