Why is it when you are desperate for tickets to a huge event, you get really desperate and naive. Deadspin is reporting a truly wicked hoax played by a scammer with no heart, but who is blowing money fast tonight.
The story is that Sharon Osgood, a die-hard 49ers fan was searching for Super Bowl tickets, but frustrated by the fact she couldn’t find any.
Osgood eventually found a seller who was offering tickets for $5,900. The only problem, the seller’s ad was on Craigslist. Ms. Osgood said she communicated for a week with the gentleman seller, who said he was a Ravens season-ticket holder.
She then wired cash to his credit union. Of course the story goes down hill from there.
On Monday she got the package she was waiting for. Instead of sparkling Super Bowl tickets in the package, there inside was a picture of quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco with a message underneath that read: “Enjoy the game!!!! Go Ravens!!! LOL.”
The scam artist reportedly told Osgood and her boyfriend that he was a corporate tax attorney living in Boca Raton, Fla., and his wife was eight months pregnant.
His wife being pregnant obviously would have prevented him from attending the Super Bowl. Osgood was in decent spirits when some would have been crushed.
“For a week I was on the phone with this guy,” Osgood said. “That’s the only reason why we” trusted him.
Osgood is saying she and her boyfriend and two other family members still planned to travel to New Orleans. People I’ve never heard of anyone getting tickets to a huge event on Craigslist.

The San Francisco 49ers' former starting quarterback Alex Smith is expected to seek his release before free agency, according to Pro Football Talk.
Smith, who lost the starting job to Colin Kaepernick in Week 10, would prefer to be released so he can garner the full benefits of free agency, the report says.
The 49ers aren't likely to release Smith because of his value in...
San Fransisco QB Colin Kaepernick took on media day on Tuesday and was expecting the unexpected after 49ers staff prepped him for what was coming. The 49ers are facing off against the Baltimore Ravens in New Orleans this Sunday, Feb 3. Staff warned him that [...]
It took Randy Moss all year to talk to the media, and when he did, everyone wished he’d just shut up. The self proclaimed “greatest receiver ever,” left the real number one great Jerry Rice scratching his head.
Rice could have just flashed his Super Bowl rings, or his postseason MVP’s, but Rice just decided to say just look in the books. While Moss once again is talking...
Ravens coach John Harbaugh says star linebacker Ray Lewis assured him ''there's nothing to'' a magazine report linking him to a company that makes deer-antler spray containing a banned performance enhancer.
Harbaugh said Wednesday morning he spoke with Lewis. The coach said Lewis ''knows there is nothing to it. He understands it's something he'...
Joe Flacco might soon cash in on his Super Bowl run. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback hopes to negotiate a new contract that will pay him $20 million per season, according to multiple media reports. Such a deal would put him in the financial ballpark with two one-time Super Bowl winners: Peyton Manning, who has a five-year, $96 million deal; and Drew Brees, who has a five-year...
There was a time when Moss was the most feared wide receiver of all time. If Jerry Rice was more of a Jason Bourne type of assassin on the field, Randy Moss was Tony Montana.
Where does he rank all time?
I think the majority of people would have him Top 5 and everyone should at least have him in their Top 10. Moss though who is trying to get the elusive ring protection thinks he...
For the 49ers and Ravens, their big names including Terrell Suggs, Aldon Smith, and Haloti Ngata have not achieved big results in the NFL playoffs.
Colin Kaepernick will be making just his 10th start in the NFL in Super Bowl XLVII, but the second-year quarterback says he’s not the least bit nervous about the big stage.
Kaepernick and the 49ers arrived in New Orleans on Sunday night, excited for the week of festivities but also ready to get to work. When asked about his level of excitement and the nerves involved in such a...
Baltimore Ravens LB Ray Lewis has proclaimed this season as his “last ride” in the NFL. Lewis is expected to retire at the end of this season which comes around 10 p.m. EST on Sunday night. He’s had a storied career in the league. No one can discount the ferocity and level of play he brought to both the locker room and the field for the Baltimore Ravens. But despite the NFL’s...
NEW ORLEANS -- Considering the Baltimore Ravens arrived in New Orleans on a path that demanded road wins over quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, it's not easy to quantify the stress of facing a dual-threat quarterback in the Super Bowl. "Just a different style, so we've got to figure out a way to have a good scheme and a good game plan for him," Ravens...

Come 6:30 p.m. EST Sunday all the predictions – experts’ and average Joes’ alike – will be rendered moot as Super Bowl XLVII kicks off. The game is full of storylines. Can Ray Lewis go out on top? Can Joe Flacco become “elite” – whatever that means? Can Colin Kapernick continue his dominant run? Will we all pass out due to the constant HARBAUGH...
