So what have we learned about the 76ers after 24 games? Falling to .500 after getting pushed off the court by the Lakers, they are far away from being a contender. Lacking personality, a defensive presence and a star, the Sixers are much like last season and seasons prior, AVERAGE. Yes, the Sixers made the big move and attempted to change their history with the signing of Bynum. That obviously hasn’t worked out as he hasn’t and probably won’t ever take the court for the Sixers. So what should Collins do? The game is the game and Collins certainly knows that playing away from the basket all the time will not produce wins regularly. Now is the time to attempt to get more play under the basket from both big men, Allen and Hawes. The Sixers, who have lacked “effort” in some losses, (esp. Detroit) need a quarter-season remake. Slowing the game down and getting Allen in the paint along with attacking the basket is the only way the Sixers can possibly get better than .500. Coaching, we saw how it made the difference last season in the playoffs. Collins knows how to get the most from his players and he is not getting it now. A seven-footer who doesn’t play in the paint? Hawes, has never played much in there before so the Sixers knew what they were getting. As for Allen, he’s the guy Collins needs to lean on if he expects to make it into the playoffs or even get above .500.  Similar Posts: Trend setting Sixers win three in a row on the road Replacing Bynum, would Greg Oden be a good fit for the rest of the season?
