The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were seconds away from a 1-0 start to the 2013 season until Lavonte David knocked Jets quarterback Geno Smith down after he was out of bounds and ultimately committing a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty which lead to Nick Folk's game winning 48-yard field goal sealing an 18-17 Jets victory in Week 1. Second year running back Doug Martin ran for a mere 67 yards on 24 carries and the absence of Carl Nicks was truly felt on the offensive side of the ball for Tampa Bay. Nicks has missed parts of the preseason and is questionable for Week 2 as he tries to overcome a MRSA infection he obtained while at the Bucs' practice facility. While Nicks did participate in practice this week there still is no word on whether he'll start in Week 2 when the 0-1 Buccaneers host the 1-0 New Orleans Saints.Already ruled out for Week 2 is tight end Tom Crabtree and cornerback Mike Adams. With Adams out in Week 2, the Bucs have promoted rookie cornerback Deveron Carr to the active roster from the practice squad and have released fullback Spencer Larsen with starting fullback Erik Loring expected to return in Week 2 after missing the Bucs' opener in New York.
