Fox Sports Southwest:
The Texas Longhorns are taking their 1-0 record to Provo this weekend when they play at BYU Saturday.
Texas (1-0) has been preparing for this game for about a year, not because of the challenges BYU (0-1) could present but because of the location of the game.
That's what playing at altitude can do.
"We've been working on it for a year now," Texas head coach Mack Brown said. "The guys actually have some oxygen masks that they've worn in the summer and the offseason. So our strength staff, our nutritionists, or trainers have all worked with the guys for a year."
Playing at altitude is nothing new for Texas. The Longhorns have played at Wyoming and used to play Big 12 games at Colorado. Both of those games were at higher elevations than Provo.
"Provo's actually 40-something hundred feet so I don't feel like it will be the issue we were concerned about," Brown said.
The issue Saturday could be BYU trying to keep up with the Texas offense. In the 56-7 rout of New Mexico State Saturday, Texas rolled up a school record 715 yards of offense. And those numbers came after Texas led just 14-7 at halftime because of some turnover issues.
"We had three drives that were stopped by turnovers in the first half," Brown said. "We only had 29 plays (in the half) and we ended up with 72 for the game. You can't turn the ball over."
